I just got done watching his youtube video and this guy is a STUD.  We've been missing exactly this type of player at MU for a long time.  He'd be special here... come on down Tarik!!

...wow. Dude is sick. I had to back up the vid when he did that behind the back thing. Would be incredible to see this guy in Blue and Gold.

Daniel

He says now he's deciding in the early signing period - so what he does int he next few days will be key....
come on Tarik - come to MU!

jono21

where did you see that he is going to decide during this signing period.  Thats a change of pace from what everyone has been saying

- Tarik Black hopes to make a decision during the early signing period. "I'm actually planning on it," Black said. He added that his finalists are Marquette, Memphis, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama. Black does not have a favorite, but he will make up his mind very soon. "I'm gonna have one real soon," he said.

"Justin Young had a blurb today saying that, with Memphis getting the commit from Tsafack yesterday that Memphis is likely out and he says "stock your backboards Marquette"."

Marquette Close to Landing Tarik Black?
It appears that Marquette is in a strong position to land 6-7 forward Tarik Black from Memphis Ridgeway High School.

I would have predicted that Black ended up at Memphis, but it now looks as if Marquette will take one away from the Tigers. Black is ranked #47 on the Rivals150 List for 2010.

His final list of schools also includes Tennessee, Memphis, Florida and Alabama.

COME ON TARIK!

Daniel

But as of today, Memphis is feeling confident again, word is.  They feel if he shows up for the Memphis game this weekend, then they have him.

Who knows - we want hinm here!  Tarik - come to MU for the Black and Blue

Markusquette

I watched an interview with him and it seems like he has a really good head on his shoulders too.  This would be a huge get.

We sign tarik and we are the best team in the best conference in the country for the next 3-4 years...that translates into competing for Final fours every single year.  Tarik just has to ask himself if he wants to go to an outstanding academic institution and compete at the highest levels in college basketball ...if the answer is "Yes" the choice is really pretty simple.

He's got some smooth back-to-the-basket moves. I'm not sure we've had as polished of a post player come to MU in a while (maybe excepting Maymon, but I really haven't seen much of him yet). By this I mean, as polished when he arrives. Our big-guys always seem like projects.

MR.HAYWARD

he is not what I would label a "big" he is a PF.  Yes he has nice back to the asket moves but what one can do with his back to the basket in HS or even AAu is different than what one can do in the BE.  I think he projects to a wonderfully athletic BE 4, one who with time working on skill and time in the weight room could have a Jeff Adrien type career or maybe more on the upside a career similar to Carlos Boozer or Corliss Williamson.  Needs to get stronger but looks great for  a HS senior

Beyond the combination of size and ability he clearly has, getting Vander Blue out of Madison (after he had committed to the red menace), ,and Tarik Black out of Memphis of all places, in the same class would be...well I don't even know what the word for it is. Maybe we throw in a kid from NYC just for good measure. I think its hard to overstate big of a get this would be.

I don't want to be a wet blanket, because I hope you are right...

But, doesn't Villanova, Georgetown, Pitt, etc. pull in talented classes every year as well?

I'm certainly optimistic, but saying "We sign tarik and we are the best team in the best conference in the country for the next 3-4 years" seems a little too bold.

There are a lot of other teams out there who are probably saying the same things, ya know?

Shhhh, don't bother him with details.  He operates in a vacuum as if nothing else is happening with the other teams.

Chicos that is not a fair comment, those other teams in the BE that have blockbuster recruiting classes don't have HOF caliber coaching like we do

Seriously, a talent like Tarik would let us be a contender for the BE title in a year or two.  Perhaps that is what he meant.

ceh

Daniel is right on this one.  The posters on memphisroar are feeling pretty confident again even though many of the national guys think MU is in the lead.  It feels like the winds are shifting south.

The Memphis Rivals writer still thinks he is going somewhere other than Memphis.  We shall see.  Here's to hoping he comes here.

Actually the only school that will have as good a back to back recruitng classes as us would be Villanova.  Pitt no, georgetown, no Loserville and Syracuse no.  All have signed good classes but not as good as our two would be with the addition of Black.

Getting back to my point we would then be on par recruitng wise in conference with villanova only, seeing as how they went to the final 4 last year and are favored to win the conference this year my projection stands.

siding with chicos is pretty soft, no matter what i say he will differ i say white he says black.  i guess we just see things differently with him being a vertically challenged Californian metrosexual, it's probably not surprising.

I'll have to take your word for it because I don't follow recruiting that closely.

Well, I see where you are going with this, but college basketball is a combination of talent, player development and in-game coaching. Getting great recruiting classes are certainly a good sign, but there are still a lot of important things that have to happen before I think I can say that MU is a final 4 contender. I guess we shall see.

I'll let you guys hash this one out. Again.

That's not the Memphis writer, that's the national guy for Rivals.  Most of the national writers seem to think he's headed to Marquette after going on his official to Florida this weekend.  Most of the Memphis insiders think he's skipping his visit to Florida and will commit to Memphis over the weekend.

I'm sorry...maybe I'm slow...

Tarik IS going to Florida this weekend?  Or he DID go to Florida and now, after the visit, the national guys think he's coming to MU?

As for the whole final four debate...it's a little premature, but Buzz has definitely displayed the kind of recruiting necessary to consistently compete at a national level.  The biggest question will be whether or not Buzz and his staff can develop the talent they're bringing in and can Buzz game plan and coach well enough in game situations to put us in a position to compete on the highest level?

Those two questions are tbd...but regardless, I'm excited as hell about the direction he's taking this program as of today.

Back to the actual topic of this posting...I've got my fingers and toes crossed on Black...GO MARQUETTE!
