[Rosiak's Blog] Wrapping up the Virginia workout

Does anyone have any inside scoop on how the scrimmage went?  I know there will be no official announcement or word but perhaps something unofficial?  ;)

Wrapping up the Virginia workout

Coach Buzz Williams said following the Haunted Hoops scrimmage that he hoped his Golden Eagles would be "whipped, and beaten in every possible way" by the Virginia Cavaliers in the teams' dual scrimmage/workout in Charlottesville on Sunday.

Turns out, that wasn't exactly the case.

With all 11 healthy scholarship players making the trip and taking part, MU for the fourth straight year reaped some major benefits from the closed-door, non-publicized workout that's become vogue among Division I teams as they seek any and every possible advantage prior to the open of the regular season.

Buzz has apparently been studying the "how-to-use-a-lot-of-words-without-saying-anything"  handbook.    From this, I get that it was a positive learning experience and nobody got hurt.   And Michael Beasley didn't lay 40+ on us.

Can't get the link to work.  Weird psychology Buzz uses.  I guess in that case, I hope I never get a raise, am always sick, live only to 55 etc..

From the article, it's hard not to think that everyone on the team got some solid good time participating in the "scrimmage".  I hope it helps all of them develop under Buzz's system.

The "make it-take it" full court drill sounds great, and helped by creating some game like situations (half-court defense/offense and transition).

The make it take it does sound good...I will immediately steal that and use it with my 5th grade girls when we scrimmage in practice.

Big fan of the make it-take it, since it forces the team to play D to get the ball, and execute on O to keep it.  Glad that nobody got hurt, either.  And I really like that Buzz and staff tried to make it as much like a road game as possible (not that you can REALLY simulate that too well).

Gives the new players a taste of Div I and the big time with Virginia being ACC.

So does anyone have any information as to how the MU players performed?  There was nothing on the Virginia board and Williams sounded a lot like TC when they asked him about it.

I find it interesting that Buzz has a great working relationship with a "Wisconsin guy" - Tony Bennett.

You are aware it's against NCAA rules to comment specifically about the scrimmage, right? Buzz said all he is allowed to say.

Given the rules, I thought we got everything we could of of it.  Sounded like a very positive experience.
