Has anybody else noticed that since about 9/11 of this year airplanes are now flying over downtown Milwaukee taking off and landing from Mitchell - so fairly low - whereas for as long as I can remember before then they had not flown over downtown? They used to have to fly over Lake Michigan in order to take off and land. Has anybody else noticed this? Does anybody know why this is? Were new plane routes opened up? Maybe something having to do with it being 8 years since the terrorist attacks? I've just noticed planes flying over downtown for the first time since I can remember and was curious as to why.

GGGG

I have been flying out of the airport for 20 years and haven't noticed much of a change.  They fly along the lakefront to approach when planes are landing in a south-southwesterly wind.  Not the prevailing wind out of Milwaukee...which is more westerly...which means they use a different runway.
