Dixon breaks right foot again

Pittsburgh senior starting shooting guard Jermaine Dixon has broken his right foot for the second time this year and will miss a minimum of eight weeks, the school confirmed Wednesday.

Dixon, the brother of former Maryland guard Juan Dixon, broke his foot when he stepped on someone else's foot during a pickup game. He had surgery to repair the injury Wednesday and is expected to return to the Panthers sometime in late November, possibly for the CBE Classic in Kansas City against Wichita State.

Dixon broke the same foot earlier this summer, also while playing basketball, and underwent surgery.

Dixon is Pitt's lone returning starter from last season's Elite Eight team. He averaged 8.4 points and 2.6 rebounds last season.

The Panthers will likely lean on returning junior guard Brad Wanamaker in place of Dixon. Redshirt freshman Travon Woodall will also get minutes in Dixon's place.

The Panthers are expected to start Ashton Gibbs at the point in place of the departed Levance Fields. Gibbs led the U.S. Under 19 team, which was coached by Pitt's Jamie Dixon, to a gold medal in New Zealand this summer.

Senior writer Andy Katz covers college basketball for ESPN.com.
