Kind of figured this may happen, we've got a lot of guards...although if this opens up spots for either Blue, Lamb, or Joseph, egads!!  Long shots, all, but a guy can dream, right?

All the best to Aaron Bowen if he decides to not stay with us.

We can take "if" out of the equation.  He's gone.  My guess is that he could change his mind next week and Buzz might not even take him.  I think he's shooting higher.

this does not really surprise me.  just seemd like we were recruiting right over the top of him.   At guard we have Junior for the next 4 years DJO for the next 3.  Jones by all intents is more highly rated than Bowen and apparently  abetter prospect.  then we have guys like Blue, Joseph, scott, clark, coleman, and others more highly rated than Bowen at our camps and being heavily recruited just to me made Bowen seem like the forgotten man.  Not that i felt Buzz "cooled on him" by any means but i think kids can become uncomfortable seeing acoach sign 4-5 guys that a player is going to have to beat out.  It is clear Buzz is not going to sign 5 stars and 7 bench warmers.  nothing will be handed to anyone, bring it ever day or ride the pine

Scott has also eliminated MU, and while Coleman is still a possibility, he's a long shot academically for any school next year.

Just a thought . . . Do you think the Roseboro situation had anything to do with this? Bowen sees some guards potentially jumping in the mix, wasn't 100% sure anyway, then he/friends/family reads some random quotes about how Buzz promised Roseboro the world and pushed him out aggressively before practices even started. From the outside and not knowing the situation, the Roseboro situation probably doesn't sit well with a family sending their kid off 1,500 miles to a guy who seems real genuine in person (good 'ol boy accent and all), but then seems pretty cut-throat and cold when he gets back to Milwaukee and out of their living room.??

Come on, promising Roseboro the world?  I guess that was the only way we got Roseboro to come to MU over UCLA.  :P

All that really matters is whether the recruit felt that way.  According to his high school coaches, that's how he felt.  Guess we'll never know.

I think a lot of you are over analyzing this (surprise!).  Bowen had developed a relationship with Layer and now he is gone.

You're right. All that matters is how he "felt". At least that seems to be the common mantra these days. I'm certainly not immune to Roseboro's or anyone else's "feelings". I'm just more interested in what happened than how it made anyone "feel". I think what happened is pretty obvious. MU made a mistake in offering a schlolarship. That became apparent to both sides very quickly. Rather than continue in a relationship that would make him unhappy Brett opted out. Good for him and good luck to him. End of story.

Given all the player/recruit action the past couple weeks (-Roseboro, +Acker, -Bowen), I finally got the scholarship table updated.  At this point, we have 1 free (likely unused) scholarship for this year, and 2 open for next year.  Note, this does NOT mean that we have 3 open for next year if this one is "banked" - It's open because Roseboro left, and he still would have been using it next year.  So, if somehow Buzz gets another player for this year (a mid-year transfer?) we'd only have 1 left for next year.

Like I said...all "at this point" though...

BINGO...I just hope that Buzz or one of the other assistants can pick up and mend the relationship that Bowen had with Layer.

Here's the translation for "decommiting" a verbal commitment.

I ain't goin' to your school no more.

Please apply this to all current and future decommitments.

So Vander Blue is then definitely not going to Wisconsin?

As of the last MUScoop has heard Blue has it narrowed down to 5 teams including MU and UW@Madison.

That's exactly correct. Once you fall out of love, that chick is history.

It doesn't really apply, but never underestimate the 'for-old-times-sake' bop.
