Hayward to play in World University Games
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:38:48 PM »
The World University Games team, coached by Wisconsin's Bo Ryan, will consist of Oklahoma State's James Anderson, Penn State's Talor Battle, Clemson's Trevor Booker, Iowa State's Craig Brackins, West Virginia's Da'Sean Butler, Villanova's Corey Fisher, Marquette's Lazar Hayward, Purdue's Robbie Hummel, Washington's Quincy Pondexter, North Carolina's Deon Thompson, Ohio State's Evan Turner and Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado. The team will compete in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1-12.

Four players were cut from the WUG trials: Purdue's JaJuan Johnson, South Florida's Dominique Jones, Illinois' Mike Tisdale and Arizona's Nic Wise. Kansas' Sherron Collins, who had been expected to try out for the WUG team, withdrew from the trials on Monday, citing family reasons.

Hayward to play in World University Games

Marquette guard Lazar Hayward has been named to play for the U.S. in the World University Games July 2-12 in Belgrade, Serbia. Team USA is being coached by UW's Bo Ryan, with UWM coach Rob Jeter as one of the assistants.

I'll post more from my interview with Hayward shortly.

Well, according to Rosiak, Lazar will....   :-\

So, often times analysts/commentators say that NBA rookies have problems in their first year in the NBA because of the length of the schedule and they often get fatigued late in the season.  They make the same comments about NBA players who do things like the Olympics in the offseason.

Any chance Lazar playing on this team will cause him to become fatigued/worn down in March/April?

First.....way to go ZAR!!

Second......fatigue won't be an issue as the NBA plays 82 games, sometimes with little or no rest and college plays at maximum 35 with usually significant stretches of rest in between games

PS- Don't hold me to the 35 it was a swag

If he isn't playing in the WUG he would be playing pick-up in Milwaukee.  He'll be fine.

Exactly. He can only benefit from more tutelage, more game experience, and more exposure!

Great for Lazar!  It looks like he will get to work on his ball handling skills!
