From what I understand here locally, Arizona likely rescinded the offer after getting wind of the NCAA investigations.  They then let Floyd back out of taking the job to give him a chance to save face a bit.

At least that's the scuttlebutt out here.

Interesting you say that, I heard the same thing, but wasn't sure it was true or not. It appears it must be.

Wonder if Floyd ever gets another coaching job?

As long as SC is cleared of major violations, I say he probably will. I personally believe that Rodney Guillory is a liar. Think about it, if you supposedly held the keys to a talent like O.J. Mayo and wanted to profit off of that, wouldn't you charge more than $1,000?

It makes absolutely zero sense.

USC is going to be a disaster. They lost 4 players to the draft, they will loose all of there recruits, and will rely on Alex Stephenson (who should have stayed on UNC) and Lil Romeo. This program is a wreck, and shows you the danger of one and done type players.

Floyd just screwed over SC much like Majerus screwed MU by resigning in June, albeit for different reasons. Tough to get any semblance of a desired coach this late into the off-season, to say nothing of the hit they'll take on the recruiting trail.

While Majerus' move to the Bucks was voluntary, my guess is that Floyd's move wasn't.

I wonder if Katz has a Crean to USC article ready??

It's USC, It's USC!

Him and Pete Carroll can tan together on the beach sipping mojitos... Crean would drink something utterly ridiculous like a mojito, correct?

Anyone else enamored with the NCAA/NBA under 20 rule and how it's done wonders to the college and pro game?

Good lord, NCAA/NBA. Get your head out of your arse. This rule is an abysmal failure. See Mayo, OJ and Rose, Derrick.

Holy crap! I couldn't even imagine how leathery Crean's skin would be after year one. Little kids would mistake his face for a 30-year old baseball glove at his Basketball Camps.

You're going to love when the NBA owners hardline on moving the age to 20 during the upcoming CBA negotiations.

I would imagine some lawsuits coming if they get that passed.

Sueing the NFL didn't seem to work for Maurice Clarrett and Mike Williams, using similar logic I don't see this as a problem for the NBA owners.

So if Gillespie goes to USC who is going to be our new Assistant?  Maybe Floyd wants to come back to the midwest for a little low profile recruiting stint in the big east.

I heard that Bo Ryan was really interested in the USC job, and USC was really interested in Bo Ryan.

but that might just be a rumor..... :o

tower912

Yeah, Bo had a secret sit down with administrators about what he needed to do to stay viable at UW and they started talking to him and he slumped in his chair and stared at the table and now he has cooled on UW.   He has re-opened his coaching options.

also something to do with all the negative things "fans" were posting about his "boring" offensive and his "stubborn" nature when it comes to not switching up his defenses no matter what, and not recruiting more athletic kids.  I mean, he's a person afterall, not just a coach.

My call for the next coach at USC...Bobby Knight.  I was out in LA last year, and saw the entire basketball facility.  It is beautiful, and will draw recruits like crazy.  The only reason Mayo went there is because no one else has made a name for themselves recently at USC.  He wanted to be the face of USC for the rest of his life.  Bobby Knight could walk to Venice Beach and recruit a million players.  He would turn them into hard nosed basketball players, and they would stop recruiting Lil Romeo's.

Rockmic87

You got the Bobby Knight idea from Andy Katz earlier today....

HoopsMalone

The best part about this is that there are possibly more recruits available for whoever may have committed to USC for the class of 2010.

You are wrong.  The reason why Mayo went to USC is because he was paid.  Thats why Floyd left.

I don't know if you are right or wrong on the whole Knight issue, I'll go with wrong on that as well.

I thought Mayo ended up at USC because he wanted:
1. To play in a major media/NBA market.
2. Play for a former NBA coach.

If I am remembering correctly, he wasn't even offered by USC.  I think he recruited himself to USC.  (Unless that is just the story.)
