We apparently were voted a top 10 mascot of this year's tournament. I do, however love the fact that the piece focuses on the nickname debacle, rather than on our "amazing mascot".

Bottom line is that most mascots are really bad.  All things considered, our GE ain't so bad (even if most of us prefer to be called Warriors).

The Gold N Eagle also made the cover of SI. He/She/It is on quite a roll with the positive publicity.

Wow.  How can they pass up WKU's Big Red or Syracuse's Orange?
Yes, it's a pet site, but if I could have a Big Red pet...
I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.

Until all of his off the court transgressions come to light...

Word on the street is he's the Shawn Kemp of mascots. Illegitimate eaglets in every Big East city.

I've heard that half the Gift Shop staff are Gold N Eagle illegitimates. It's also where people hang out while dodging work.

I think the list lost credibility when it had the sweatsuit wearing UConn Huskie on the list and not Sparty the Spartan or Otto the Orange.

The eagle probably gave the author of this piece pizza for a year or a seat upgrade at the tournament.

I'll second that, i hear the eagle is more corrupt than chicago politics!

Coleman

It seems like the list is based on animal mascots...which might disqualify a decent amount of them

Right, It's top 10 Pet Mascots.  So Top 10 out of 30 or so teams, explains a lot.
Captain, We need more sweatervests!  TheManInGold has been blinded by the light (off the technicolor sweatervest)

Hmmmmmm...besides Fr. DiUlio, I don't know anyone who keeps a golden eagle as a pet.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Muhoops85

Not too sure about the pizza thing.  I begged the eagle all year long on this message borad and in person for the pizza...his excuse.."They won't let me give pizza to people with seats this good"

Then I found out that he is a Cubs fan and it all made sense.

Willy Wampum would have never made the list.

Willy Wampum would have never made the list.

Willie Wampum would've been at the top of this list.

Am I the only alum who remembers Willie's dance to the jazz hit "Cherokee," played by the MU band, usually late in the second half when a Warrior victory was pretty much no longer in doubt? He'd start the dance by the Warrior huddle and hop across the floor to swing his tomahawk around the visiting team's huddle, accompanied by the whoops and hollers of the Warrior faithful.

It was a totally different era.

How different? We had a prayer for peace before games, too, right before the National Anthem:

"God, Our Heavenly Father, enlighten the minds and move the wills of those men upon whom depends the fate of nations, so that they may cooperate for a worldwide and enduring peace."

Or something like that.

I noticed at the Big East that there wasn't much interplay among mascots, i.e., faux fights or other fun shenanigans. Cheerleading squads even did cheers together at some games. I guess we can thank the NCAA for all the effusive, feel-good, hugs-driven atmosphere that prevails. I just kept wishin' somebody woulda decked that friggin' leprechaun . . . .

Daniel

I remeber the Willie times......ahhhhh - well, when I said he wouldn't be on the list, I meant in today's world :)
