MU definitely was involved with Murphy at one point (the 'Entourage' references were flying), but that was under Crean, so who knows if there's anything there today.

If Crean were to get Murphy, what does that do to his available scholarships, would that take him out of the Darius Smith recruitment?  I know a ton of recruits are about to hit the market and we may snag a high level one, but smith is intriguing.

Donovan's not going anywhere, but even if he was, Murphy considered MU because of Crean not Buzz.  So he'd look at Indiana instead.

Kentucky recruits Orton and Hood are complete studs, but the prize for anyone would be Boynton from Florida's recruiting class.  Don't know how this carousel will turn out with Donovan, but the vultures will soon be descending.

Please explain the logic as to why Mike Anderson would leave Mizzou for Georgia.  He is one game away from the Final Four, has seven newcomers to this year's team plus two more recruits they are excited about, is going to get a significant raise and a five years added to his current contract, has top notch facilities, plays in a better conference (Big 12 vs. SEC), they sold out their last six home games, and the state loves him!  So why leave all of that to go to Georgia where 4000 people go to the game and no one cares about basketball.

Actually, Mizzou's won the 2nd most tournament games (21) of any program to never make the Final Four. 

If Mizzou can win tomorrow, and Anderson sticks around, he may be able to develop something there akin to what Arkansas was under Nolan Richardson (his coaching mentor) in the 80s and 90s.

traditionally, Mizzou has a way better history than Georgia. That would be a lateral move.

Actually I think Anderson moving to UGA would be worse than a lateral move.  Sure Mizzou has experienced some recent football success but they have a strong baskeball traditon (certainly when compared to UGA).  Furthermore, there is no way they will come up with the money to lure Anderson (whom I think could be a dark horse for Kentucky) as any offer of $2 million puts him in Mark Richt territory and Dawg fans won't go for that.

All that said I think the UGA job is attractive on many levels.  First, the high school talent well here is very deep.  Second UGA AD Damon Evans is committed to upgrading all sports.  UGA has strong teams in a number of sports including baseball, men's golf, women's gymnastics (they have won something like 10 national championships) and golf.  Evans would love to elevate the hoops programs and based on the current state of weakness in the SEC he sees and opportunity.

Who knows perhaps Billy Clyde ends up at UGA.  Tell me he wouldn't like a chance to take on Kentucky

I agree on most of your points but i'm not sure it's worse than a lateral move due to the recruiting base and playing in a historically better conference (i know... probably debatable but besides the point).  The rumors that I heard was that Evans was willing to pay Capel upwards of $1.5MM which is well above the $850k for Anderson.

I think Anderson would be a great hire for UGA.  Also, i'm surprised Leonard Hamilton's name hasn't come up more.  It would sure be nice to see him bolt FSU and have Snaer commit to MU.  It'd kinda make up for Taylor ditching us last year!

Hamilton's name hasn't come up because prior to this season Hamilton was in danger of getting fired for underperforming.  No one out there does less with more talent than Leonard Hamilton.  He's had some of the most talented teams in the country since he got to FSU, and he has only one NCAA appearance to show for it.

Georgia is a better program.  It's got more money, in a nicer town, and I think a better conference overall.

If I were a coach, the best job would be to coach at Chaminade (Sp?). Get to play the big boys once a year and live in Maui all year.

It was interesting that the buzz at Alabama had been that they were getting Anderson for a while, before the started looking at VCU instead.  It seems to be Georgia is at least a better option than Alabama, where you don't have the recruiting base and are never going to get any attention over football, with even a couple of Sweet 16 teams ignored.

You could just take Crean's approach and go to a conference you think you have a better chance to win quickly - which would certainly be the SEC.

Don't get me wrong I think (as Last Warrior stated) that the UGA is very attractive due to the incredible high school talent in this state and the low bar that currently exists for UGA hoops.  I also think Evans is looking for the right guy and is prepared to put some serious $ on the table.  That said, in the current economic climate (GA has almost 10% unemployment including yours truly and the state has made some massive budget cuts including in education) it might be a tough sell to spend big $ on a hoops coach (unless they get outside money to fund it as is often the case).

UGA's faciltiy (Stegman) is a dump but it could be turned into a major home court advantage and they have a new practice facility.

All in all I think Anderson would be the best hire but wouldn't it be funny to see Billy Clyde show up for a chance to take on KU   I haven't heard Hamilon's name come up but he has recruited Georgia fairly effectively so you never know.

To get back on topic. If those players from UK have all signed, I doubt UK will be as gracious as Marquette and hold them to their letter of intent. Just my feeling.

Kentucky's recruits were probably sold on playing for Kentucky, so are less likely to jump ship because of a coaching change. It seems to Me Buzz sells the recruits on playing for Marquette while Crean was more on selling the recruits on playing for him. Crean's incoming recruits jumped ship because they were sold on playing for Crean.
