He ONLY gets blasted on this board and NEVER.....I hate posts that are absolutes like that.

I do know if Crean was still coaching and Hayward did that, well it would be because of poor coaching.  But the reality is, it's not on the coach, Hayward just did it.  Too bad, great kid and great player.  I look forward to him playing again next year.  We wouldn't even have been in this game if it weren't for him on Friday and during the season. Unfortunate it had to happen to him.

I thought Buzz did a great job at halftime, I thought the first half we played with the idea of running with these guys which was dumb.  I do put that on the coach, but I also think the halftime adjustments are credit to him.    Isn't that balanced criticism and praise?   Or am I a hater again?   ::)

Well your whole body of work (posts throughout the year) are definitely slanted more in one direction.  Interesting enough they were slanted the other way up until that April day.

Buzz needed to make some adjustments in the first half where we didn't make a field goal for over 10 minutes.  I think he is very good at halftime adjustments and needs some work during actual play.

When will you learn? I get a kick out people that complain about playcalling or calls that either went or didn't go their way.  It's like the old gripe when a guy fumbles or there is an interception midway through a game and says, "If (insert name here) just didn't fumble/(insert call here) we would have won the game.  No you wouldn't...it assumes that everything would have unfolded exactly the same way that it occurred, along the same timeline, with the same events and the same results.

Mizzou was supposed to RUN us.

Mizzou was supposed to switch their men out and TIRE us out.

That didn't happen. Why? Because Buzz made some adjustments and two big seniors - Wes and Jerel - led us.

Don't blame Buzz.

I agree.  This loss did not come down to execution or a mental lapse.  This was a bad bounce here an unlucky break there.  For what it's worth the citizens of Puerto Vallarata love MU thanks to my children's undying passion.

Boos filled the afternoon air at the Sunset Inn in Bucerias, MX when the lame foul was called w/ 5.5 sec left.

I bashed the Three Amigos regularly.  Today I applaud them.  We just didn't get a break.  They played their asses off.  Now I shall drink mine gone.  ADIOS AMIGOS!

No, actually they weren't.  Why don't you go through and read them.  When he deserved praise he got it, when he didn't...he didn't.   I thought he only had poor performances in about 4 or 5 games quite frankly.  And in those games I said something, but not in the other ones.  I think you focus just on the negative.

It is interesting that Vitale made a  remark similar to mine ,referring to the success level of the coaches who are currently in the sweet 16 on Sportscenter while giving praise to the 3 amigos and the courage of James as to why he loves college basketball . The point is that our coach is basically a ROOKIE similar to Crean when he took over our program . He does not have much EXPERIENCE .His percentage of good decisions is not on par with the more experienced and sucessfull coaches currently in the Sweet 16 .

That begs the question, "How patient are we going to be?"

Well, if a successful coach comes along who is a better fit ,then we need to consider a change ,just like many other programs do .However ,I feel Buzz will have just enough success to keep his job for the usual 8-9 year period .

I am glad we have Buzz as our coach. He obviously received the respect of the players and more importantly the senior leaders on this team who praise him every chance they get. And yet, us Alumni/fans can't respect him?? We aren't the ones playing out there and working with him in practice and workouts day in and day out. I'd say none of us who are hating on him have any validity to those comments. When they players are praising the coach, you know he is doing a great job. I am really looking forward to the future, and am just as sad as the next guy to say goodbye to this unique group of seniors. but please, please don't make this out to be Buzz's loss.

Successful coaching = succesful recruiting. The teams that have practice tomorrow support that. Not that X's and O's don't play a roll, but it pales in comparison to the players you put on the floor. No matter how good a chef you may be, if you don't have quality ingredients, the food isn't as good.

I also stand by the fact that each of those coaches we now call "Great" had to start somewhere. I'd say this is a pretty great place to "start" for Buzz. The true test of his coaching ability will be what he does from this day forth.

StillWarriors

It was a helluva comeback and a helluva game-a look better than a bail out 3 would have been nice, but Mizzou made mistakes too. That is the nature of sports at any level. Doesn't always have to be someone's fault and cause for bashing the coach. Sucks we lost big time and we never got where we should have with the Big 3, but they played the right way and gave it all they had.

Veteran coaches don't coach perfect games either-though it appears most here believe coaching is black and white and everything other coaches out there do is the right thing. Frustrating to hear that nonsense from our own fans.

GOLDY

Buzz did a great job with this team.  He inherited a team with no depth and no quality big men.  It is way too early to determine if he was a good hire.  Does he have some things to improve on? Yes, but give him a break.  This team had obvious areas of concern before the season started (depth, no quality big men, average shooting team, etc.), not to mention dealing with injuries along the way.

It is not Buzz's fault that Tom Crean did what he did to the players and the university.  I am looking forward to next year and the new players coming in.  Thanks seniors for 4 great years of exciting basketball.  You played with a lot of heart and that is fun to watch.

it may be a great place for Buzz, but is it good for the team/fans? Rookie coaches earn their lumps at schools like UNO, not at schools in power conferences with legitimate tournament expectations. Marquette is not really a place for rookie coaches to learn. the learning curve is way too steep when you have to compete against HOF coaches and players on a daily basis.

Jamie Dixon, Matt Painter, Tom Izzo...Just a couple that immediately come to mind. If you're ready your ready. Time will tell if Buzz was indeed ready.

You could say this *IF marquette was a team like UCONN or PITT with great records in the post season, great expectations as a program. MU did not grab that kind of "powerhouse" coach attention when the job opened up. We are not one of the huge power teams like those guys. Up until our final four appearance with Wade, we weren't even looked at by top recruits. You can't make that comparison. Only years ago, we were in conference USA. We are babies in the league of the Big East and have done very well with this challenge. I don't think TC would have done better had he been around. If you are saying Buzz should not be learning at this stage, then TC certainly should not have had the season he had. The great coaches are the ones that are learning and changing their game all the time based on situations they face. This loss does not fall upon Buzz's shoulders. He didn't even get a chance to recruit his team....he was lucky to inherit the 3 amigos. other than that, he didn't have anyone. He recruited guys like McMorro, Otoule, Butler, Fulce. You should give him at least until next year to see how "great" of a coach he will be - when he gets the chance to coach his own team and build the way he wants. Not a fair statement on your part. It is also GREAT for the team/fans. I am very excited at the potential of next season, particularly how MU will look with a more balanced inside - outside game. This loss isn't the end for the warriors. Its the end of an era for the seniors which is absolutely heartbreaking.

I think we will be very good next season - maybe not Ncaa, but close.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

I can not take this board anymore because of posts like this. I do not understand why people have this extreme fetish of trying to make Buzz look bad. The man can do nothing right apparently. He made half time adjustments that were fantastic give it up! No one wants to hear it, especially after a loss like this. It seems people don't even watch the games except to see things they disagrees with.

Can we make a new board where Buzz bashers can have their time and the rest of us can have peace. Every game there is something and I can't take it anymore!

I thought Buzz made great halftime adjustments. I'll probably get panned for saying this, as it is a recurring theme on this board and some people don't agree, but the only small gripe that I have is that I thought he should have called time out earlier in the first half to prevent Missouri's momentum. Missouri went on 9-0 and 11-0 runs, and then a 12-4 run. I just remember that when he did call one it was about 6 points too late. But what's done is done. Great effort.

mubball2009

buzz has left much to be desired during many times this season, but I don't really think tonight is a night u criticize him on. he may have played dj too much, but we were a different and better team the 2nd half.

I have questioned all too many buzz decisions this year and am not yet convinced he is the answer. having said that, our best 2 halves of the year were the 2nd tonight and the 2nd against nova. hopefully that is a sign of things to come.

MKEblue

Buzz was handed the keys to a Cadillac with the Big 3 and did at least as well as Crean would have done.  He made some rookie mistakes but also reacted better to strategy changes than Crean generally did.   Next 2 years will tell when he needs to create his own team mix and mentor and mold younger players to compete in the Big East.   Anything in the top third makes him a huge success.  Lower and we will all be talking about him on this board.       I think we will all miss the Big 3.   they were special and fun to watch.  They will be a permanent part of Marquette Lore.

Exactly. Think Pitino "outcoached" his Siena counterpart today? Or Calipari "outcoached" the guy from Cal St Northridge Thursday? Or Jamie Dixon "outcoached" East Tennessee State's headman on Friday? No, No and No. Truth be told the opposite was true, but because there was a gigantic talent differential in all three games the big boys survived. No thanks to them.

Just out of curiousity, last year was it the same thing with Crean?  I'm just asking.

In my mind, coaches put players in positions to win, but players do the winning and losing most of the time.  I don't think Buzz lost any games for us this year nor do I think he won any games for us.  Players do the winning and losing.

So then you're saying, using that example, Morril outcoached Buzz?   ;)

Regardless, Buzz is a quality person, quality recruiter and that should pay huge dividends for him.  I honestly don't believe a coach wins or loses a game, at least most of the time.  Too many individual plays in a game to say one play, one timeout, one decision makes the entire game's outcome a reality.   But there are certainly those times within a game where management, etc, can be improved.  Buzz will learn, I have no doubts.

He knows what pieces we need to get better.....I believe Crean did, too, but couldn't get them to come to MU.  It's one thing to know, it's another to fill those pieces. Will he be able to do so?  That will ultimately decide if the program is successful or not under his leadership.

The book on Tom Crean is now all but officially closed....only one major player remains.  It's pretty much all Buzz moving forward.
