OT: Can You Help A Brother Out?

Will be travelling to Washington D.C. in March and need suggestions for
1. a decent hotel on the Georgetown U. campus or within walking distance.
2. nice steakhouse type restaurant for dinner.

Don Shula's Steakhouse is good and its right downtown.

If you're going to be in Georgetown, I'd recommend Morton's.

Shula's downtown is a $15 cab ride as there isn't a Metro stop in Georgetown.  Stupid yuppies too good to ride a subway.

If you didn't want steak, there are a number of really good seafood restaurants in the area.

The best steakhouse in D.C. was Fran O'Briens but I believe it has been closed.  Fran was an old time Redskin and they had some of the best steaks in the country.  Trust me - i've been to almost every top steakhouse in the country thanks to my consulting days and Fran's was awesome.  Has anybody else been there and is it still open?  I heard that they shut down their doors.   ???

The Ritz Carlton in Georgetown is nice place to stay if you're on an expense account.

Any reason why you want to be near the G-Town campus?  The stadium isn't there (its in Chinatown), and its a relatively "closed" campus in that it is tucked in at the end of G-Town.  The Ritz is nice, and the Four Seasons is outstanding.  Also within walking distance are a couple of hotels in the West End (e.g., Fairmont) that are pretty nice.  If it was up to me, I'd stay closer to downtown though.  I guess you could go across the Key Bridge to some of those hotels there and still be within walking distance -- probably a lot cheaper too.

If you want steakhouses, there are all the national chains (Mortons/ S&W/ etc.), but others you might consider are Charlie Palmers, District Chophouse, Prime Rib and the Caucus Room.  They have Capital Grille's and Palm's in other cities now too, but these are the originals and they have a very Washington feel (and often have notable-ables dining).

Regarding the Georgtown campus question, he said March, so I assumed it had nothing to do with the game.

If you're open for anyplace downtown, the District Chophouse is pretty cool.  They have a micro-brewery in the restaurant and come up with some pretty cool beers.  The bourbon stout is really good as is the dunkelweizen.

I like the Old Ebbitt for drinks and the raw bar, but I've never had a steak there.  Very cool history to the place, though.
