First half game updates: MU vs. Utah State

Halftime: MU leads 26-18, but considering how well the Eagles have played defense, they have failed to take advantage of golden chances at the other end of the floor. Jerel McNeal is 1 of 6 and MU is shooting just 34.6% from the floor. However, Utah State is an ice cold 26%.

2:00: MU went on a 10-0 run, holding Utah State scoreless for over five minutes to take a 23-9 lead, Utah State scored a couple of baskets and Buzz Williams decided to call a rare timeout in an attempt to avoid a spurt. The Aggies son't appear to have an answer for Marquette's quickness and defensive pressure. Gary Wilkinson, Utah State's star forward, appears lost on defense. If MU was shooting at a better clip, this game would already be over. The Eagles lead, 26-16.

7:22: MU missed eight shots in a row before Wesley Matthews ended the drought with a short jumper. MU hasn't shot the ball well, but the Eagles have created far more shot opportunities than the Eagles because of outstanding defense. Its fairly obvious that the perimeter quickness of the Eagles is taking Utah State out of its set offense. Utah State is also 0-of 5 from the three-point line. MU leads 19-9 and will have a chance to create some distance if they start to shoot a bit better.

11:37: Lazar Hayward is off to an outstanding start. At the first media timeout, the score is Lazar Hayward 7, Utah State 4. Hayward, often the best shooter im Marquette's team, has his perimeter game working early. It should come as no surprise that MU is looking to push the pace at every opportunity. Rebounding will have to trigger the transition game for the Golden Eagles because Utah State will attempt to run an offensive set almost every time they have the ball.  MU leads 13-7. Lazar Hayward has 10 points, but has missed his last two shots.
