B10 tourney
« on: March 13, 2009, 05:38:42 PM »
Am I the only one who (A) is really happy Wisconsin lost, and (B) still trying to figure out how the B10 is considered better in some rankings than the BEast.   One team would be in the upper tier (Sparty) and they struggled today.   Boring, boring, basketball.   Not due to great D, but poor offense and lack of athleticism.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Brent Musberger today described this season a, "fabulous year for the Big 10 conference."

Not sure where that's coming from exactly. Appears to me to be the same suckfest its has been the past several years. Yes, they will get a bunch of teams in - most of them 8-11 seeds. I just see very little quality there. MSU followed by...Well, followed by nobody.

I think the defense in the B10 is vastly overrated. People see the low scores and think "oh well its because the D is so good", but I think that's just crap. Low scores are due to offensively-challenged teams playing at a sloooow pace. I'm just tired of hearing about how great the defense is! Besides, as a fan I think the best defense is good offense.

Thank you...the talent after MSU drops suddenly.  The Illini are decent...but will not go far IMO in the tourney.  I think the fact that they are seeded fifth in some brackets is disgusting.

And I still believe MSU is the most overrated team in the country.  They don't belong anywhere near a 1 seed.  Seed them according to how good they actually are and they'd be very lucky to get a 4.

I agree MSU is overrated.  Their projected seed is based on reputation (coach) and I think the fact that "Oh my gosh, it's the Big 10 and we just HAVE to have someone from this conference represented in the big dance, and MSU is all we have."

The Big Ten is improved over the past few years.  Yes, there isn't a Final Four team outside of Michigan State, but it is improved.  The style of play maybe boring to some, but it is winning that matters.  I am no Big Ten apologist... trust me.

However, it is better than many on this board would like to admit.  And certainly worse than the Big Ten fans and some commentators (Musberger) would like to admit.

I still say if people want to complain about a league... look at the SEC.  Let's say the Big Ten gets 7 schools (which I gather some around here would view as a travesty).  That is, at most, 1 more bid than they deserve.  The SEC, on the other hand, could very well get 4 bids, which would be 2 more than they deserve.

From a Big East perspective there is only one school right now that could get screwed... Providence... and they may still get in.

What was funny in the OSU-Wisconsin game was early in the second half, when it was 30-28, the announcer said that the Buckeyes "were going to try and slow it down."
