HUMBLE CHRISTIAN LIFE WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

CLCA finished the season 35-2 
 
This past weekend, Christian Life Center Academy (35-2) based in Humble won their first ever National Association of Christian Athletes Elite Boys National Championship in Dayton, Tennessee.  The tournament was invitation only and drew some of the top programs in the country such as Covenant Christian (Marietta, GA) IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL), Progressive Christian (Camp Springs, MD), Our Savior New American (Centereach, NY), Mountain State (Beckley, WV), and Veritas Christian (Fletcher, NC). 
     
Latavious Williams and Junior Cadougan  were named Most Outstanding Player and Most Valuable Offensive Player of the tournament, respectively.  Augustine Rubit, Leslee Smith, Melvin Johnson, Kendell Hosten were all named to the all-tournament team. 
     
Head coach Carlos Wilson released the following statement regarding his team's successful season, "Winning a national title is very special to me personally and to the program.  We did it the right way by working hard every day, constantly improving, and winning games on a national stage.  There were a lot of programs who recieve more publicity and ink but only a few can claim their stake in a national title!  Our motto is to let our accomplishments speak for themselves and an overall record of 109-20 the past three seasons, 11 D-1 signees (and counting), a pro in Deandre Jordan (LA Clippers), and a Christian School National  Championship speaks volumes!"

I have the exact same reaction to this story as I did to my 5th grade daughter telling me her classmate "made it to state" in swimming.

Exactly how many teams are in this "National Association of Christian Athletes Elite Boys National Championship".  For all I know, this could be a group of four teams or four hundred teams.  By the name, I would assume it is a rather "exclusive" (by that I mean "small") group of teams.  I need some perspective/details before I can be impressed.

well that was quite an ignorant staement ... swimming on the youth level is under the jurisdiction of US Swimming the same body that presides over the united states olympic team program...from olympics all that way to toddlers.  State regardless of how many people are competing is "accomplished"  by meeting predetermined times for the respective sex and age group.  Also she maybe a 19 yr old 5th graders as we see in some sports but swimming goes purely on a age so she is proabably competing at 11 and under agre group and beat a predetermined time to "qualify" for state having a son who was a good swimmer I can tell you "qualifying for state" is exeptional. usually 5 or so kids would qualify for stae on his swim team that was very vetry good and had about 100 members.  Stte type swimmers are usually the kids that enter 4-5 events at each meet and win all of them in laughers unless there is another "state' type swimmer in the pool.  Sounds like she is one hell of a swimmer.

Regardless of the number of teams, MUEng92, it appears the competition there is pretty impressive, they've had NBA caliber players and it seems plenty of D1 level players play in that tournament, and JC hung 18-20pts/6-9assts consistently on them.  I'll take it for what it's worth--pretty impressive, and I think we're getting a pretty good PG next year to run the team.

You may be correct.  By definition, I am ignorant regarding the topic of youth swimming.  I know nothing about youth swimming.  So, by your description, I guess it is safe to assume that any youth that enters a swimming event of any kind, they are automatically part of US Swimming, even if it is just some group at a neighborhood pool?  Wow, US Swimming has power.  Maybe you are right and there aren't unsanctioned swimming groups.  As you said, I am ignorant, but will stick to questioning it before I automatically believe that this makes her one of the best 4-5 swimmers in the state.  I honestly didn't care enough to research it.

never stated she was one of the best 4-5 swimmers int he state , stated that my sons team was about 100 memeber s  and usually about 4-5 kids qualified.  Typically there would be 20-30 kids swimming an event at stae ...obviously wholly dependent on the how strong the crop of swimmers was for that stroke, distance and age. 

And yes in certain sports the governing bodies are very far reaching, soccer is similar, while your duaghters friend maybe be in some unsanction club.  I would be quite suprised that if she was ona club team that qualified for a "state " meet competing against other teams it is some ad hoc unsanctioned grass roots get together.  You sound jealous

Jealous...no.  I have no connection whatsoever to swimming (if that wasn't obvious before).  Heck, I would be lucky if I could swim 2 laps in the pool.  The past "accomplishments" of this particular girl has led me to more than one  , so I would have to admit that, that probably played a bigger part in my doubting the accomplishment than anything else.

I am now thinking I shouldn't have even brought it up in this thread.  At the end of the day, it is better that MU's recruit is involved in any kind of "National Championship" than if he was involved in a 3-20 team or an off the court incident.

Caddy is a winner.  Apparantly he is a real leader on the teams he has played on.  I like that about him.  His team won the big AAU tourney last summer in Vegas.  I think there were 64 of the top teams there.  This tournament is another national victory for he and the team has lead.  Hopefully he can have another national victory or two at MU (and I am not talking about the NIT!)   

If he is as good as he seems, we may surprise a few people next year.

No offense  to JC but this tournament reminds me of a guy from work who told us his grandson was the national champ in wrestling. The part he forgot to tell us was that he was the U.S. Jewish National Champ.
The story only made me think of the movie Airplane and the Jewish Sports History Book.

Depending on the state, Prep Schools may not be allowed to play in the state tournament so they play in national tournaments against better competition for "national championships".  The mythical Prep School National Championship was done at the same time as this one, but in New England.  It had several of the big name prep schools, but did not limit itself to Christian schools only.
