"We're Demons fans through thick and thin," said Ann Kohler of Newton, Pa. "We always go to see the team if they're in the area, no matter how good or bad they are. Obviously this has been a little bit of a painful season, but we're still optimistic about the future."

So was Ann one of the 20 or so DePuke fans at the MU/ DePuke game in Rosemont?   ?-(

Maybe somebody should tell our team that DePaul has more wins than they do since February 22nd and they weren't impressive in the least both times they played DePaul.

Just yesterday I was at the bar and a UConn fan started laughing at me.

muwarrior87

"You know why they're cheering for us, right?" he said, laughing with a beer in each hand. "It's because they all want to play us."

I know Providence can't be too happy. A game against another bubble team would have meant the winner of that game would most likely be a lock for the NCAA tourney. Now, having to play Depaul again, their rpi and sos are going to drop and they will need a solid win today and maybe even a win tomorrow against L'ville to make the tourney.

"Kohler's husband Gary said that he was so confident Tuesday was going to be the day that he booked two nights in their hotel. And made dinner reservations. Talk about pushing the envelope."

Maybe the DePaul team stayed with them...

Yeah, that is really going out on a limb. Lord knows there would be nothing else to do in NYC had DePaul lost yesterday.

LON

You deserve to get laughed at when you're 0-18

Wade4Life

Laugh at the team not at the fans.

I actually give those fans a lot of respect for following an 0-18 team to the BET....that takes heart.

MU_Warrior44

I really hope this story was misconstrued and that our players weren't actually laughing at fans. That just reflects poorly upon the university.

Skatastrophy

I was molested by the entire depaul team in NY last night.  Prove it's not true.

Yeah - negative statements about MU from DePaul fans.  I'm sure there's nothing but fact there.... ::)

BrewCity83

It didn't say it was the players.  It said the "team".  That could include the band, cheerleaders, trainers, coaching staff, video assistant, waterboy, the sweet tea girl, etc.

The upside is that Cincy isn't competing for a spot any more.

This isn't actually an upside. More Big East teams in the tournament = better for Big East. MU, I hope I don't need to remind you, is a member of the Big East...

At the same time, Cincy going down to a subpar team in the NCAA tourney is bad for the Big East too.

Better to have played and lost than to never have played at all...

Really though, who cares...?  It is obviously a he said she said.
Sure, blah blah blah... bad for school;
blah blah blah... prove it.

I don't necesarily agree.  Getting more bids would make us all feel great on Selection Sunday and made a bit more $$ for the conference in the short run.  But if 8 or 9 teams get in and then flame out, it might create a negative impression that could have a future impact on our bids.  And remember, we just might be that 8th or 9th team looking for a bid someday....

And yeah, I know the committee says they don't consider conference affiliations and past performances.... ::)

I meant upside for Providence.

Of course struggling with DePaul for 20 minutes isn't helping things, either.

When night before Marquette played G'town in the BET in, what, '06 (?), i was in the city to see the game, had my Marquette gear on, was taking a group picture (everyone had MU gear) outside ESPN ZONE, and who goes walking by and spouts off a couple off-color remarks to us... the G'Town PLAYERS.  so it happens

Playing DePaul was a downside for Providence. The Friars had to win today no matter what to remain a bubble team; whereas a win over Cincinnati might have made the difference and gotten them in, a win over DePaul is completely meaningless.

Now, instead of being in with a win over Cincy, they have to beat Louisville. Good luck with that.
