MU slips to No. 21

Mar. 9, 2009 2:59 p.m.

New York -- Coming off their second consecutive two-loss week, the Marquette Golden Eagles on Monday continued their freefall in the Associated Press' media poll by dropping to No. 21.

MU (23-8, 12-6 Big East) was ranked eighth two weeks ago, and 13th last week. The Golden Eagles have lost four straight games -- to Connecticut, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Syracuse -- for the first time in more than five years.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, moved up to No. 2 after dumping No. 1 Connecticut for the second time this season last week. The Huskies dropped to third.

Louisville moved up one spot to No. 5 after clinching the Big East's regular-season championship with a victory at West Virginia on Saturday night.

Villanova is ranked 10th and Syracuse moved up to 18th from 25th.

MU, meanwhile, left Milwaukee earlier today for New York. The Golden Eagles take on either Georgetown or St. John's at 1 p.m. Wednesday in a second-round Big East Tournament game at Madison Square Garden.
