Lots of discussion about Buzz's performance this season.  Now that the regular season is over, and we are heading into Tourney time, what OVERALL Grade would you give Buzz so far?

Again the key words are "so far."   Incomplete is not allowed.  Grade him today based on what you have seen since April 1, 2008.

I'd go with a B-

Overall, I have been very impressed but there have been a few head scratcher moments for me as well.  He has definitely exceeded my expectations thus far but we should really ask this questions three years from now to get a true evaluation of Buzz as a HC.

His inability to call timeouts have been the cause of every loss...

The guy comes in to a place with no big guys and playing in the toughest conference in the country and gets 12 wins.  Few people expected that.  These guys are not even his recruits.  The guy has no center, no quality back up guards and no shooter to come in off the bench and light it up.  He had four legit players, a solid defensive backup in Butler, and a big body to take up space in Burke.  Also had a hustle and play your heart out back up PG in Acker I suppose, but Buzz won a lot of games with very little.

I don't know if people expected 12 wins or not, but the coaches picked MU to finish 6th in the league in the pre-season poll. We ended up 5th, so its not like we really exceeded or fell below anybody's expectations.

I don't get the whole undersized team argument for Buzz's coaching ability. Remember the team we've had for the past 4 years? It's been completely guard oriented and we would play undersized all the time and win. Losing Ous meant replacing a 6'10 player with a 6'8 player. Not a big deal because honestly, Ous was not a Big East caliber big man. Being happy with 12 wins is fine, but look at who those wins came against. The Villanova win at home was big. Other than that, the other "big" wins came to inflated teams who later fell off the map.

Buzz seems to be adored by the players and that is tought to replace. But his inability to come up with effective game plans for marquee games. I think he Buzz would be a great assistant coach, but I don't really think he has proven to be an effective head coach this season.

I'd give him a C and I think MU (especially this group of seniors) deserved more than that

Who did UConn beat? Louisville? Again, the standard for Buzz Williams seems to be winning the BE, even though he lost his senior PG prior to the toughest part of the schedule. Please get a clue!

Wos, 54 posts and already ignored by 7 users. You going for some kind of record?

Let's see...even when "undersized" last year and playing small we still were able to put in 6'10 Barro, 6'9 Fitzgerald and 6'8 Blackledge.  That's quite a bit different than Burke, who while he's listed at 6'8 is actually 6'6, and Jimmy Butler who is a 6'6 2 guard playing the 5.

If you think Ous was not a Big East caliber big man then you weren't really paying attention.  The guy averaged 8PPG and 7RPG as a junior....we would have killed for that this year.  Further, if he's not Big East caliber, then what the he** is Burke?  The drop off between the two is huge both offensively and defensively, and if you can't see that you're blind.
