It is ridiculous to suggest that Marquette name Dominic James an "honorary" starter, whatever that is.

Or announce six starters.

Or have James take to the floor just for the jump ball, and then have the team that wins the jump call an immediate timeout -- and to expect Syracuse to be part of this folly.

Or to plan on winning the opening tip and then "chuck the ball out of bounds" so James can get a standing ovation.

Or name James the "honorary" head coach, whatever that is.

Last I heard and read, we are a big-time collegiate basketball team playing an important game against a strong team Saturday afternoon.

I have to believe Dominic James would be the first to say that Marquette should have nothing to do with silly gimmicks or concocted events meant to generate applause for a young man who is already going to receive plenty.

I think that DJ should descend from the rafters wearing a cape on a pulley system, touch the floor, and be whisked skyward while flapping the cape in the breeze, with the crowd singing a mixture of the Alleluia Chorus, Ring Out Ahoya, and We Are the Champions.  But I am against anything contrived...

I agree on everything except one. There is no harm in announcing him with the starting line up. I think everyone would like to hear him introduced one last time.

I agree the other ones are non-sense but this has no impact on the game at all.
