Wade for President

We've all heard the comparisons from Levance Fields to Khalid El-Amin.  The two things I like most about those comparisons, are that they are both winners.

After watching Fields play for 4 years now, I feel I'm pretty familiar with his game.  I gotta admit though...I've never really been a big fan(a lot of that could be due to the fact that he's an opposing player).  17 points and 10 dimes, is pretty tough to argue against.  However, I've seen Fields struggle from the floor and get burned defensively.

One thing for sure come next year...it's going to take some adjustments not having a point guard who can put up SportsCenter quality dunks every night.  A BIG adjustment.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE Junior and am ecstatic for him to get on campus.  Just curious if anyone on the board has seen him play in person/can offer some insight on what we can expect.

Marquette65

we should only wish he is half as good as Fields

jaygall31

yeah, with fields..and the pitt guards before him (knight, Krauser)..the cluth shot factor was huge. I hope junior can stroke it like that. Because isn't it in the programs best interest to start him from day 1?
It's not about ME,
It's about US.

we can only hope Junior will avoid jail better than Levance.

Big Papi

My preference has always been for a decent sized, quick point guard who can attack an offense, distribute the ball and defend.  I really question Cadugan's ability to defend in the Big East.  But I can't question Fields successful career so hopefully Cadugan can be just as good.

I would hope that Junior starts from Day 1...why wait?  Acker can spell him decent minutes early on off the bench.  He can get acclimated to college play during the cupcake season much easier than in conference.

+1  94.  throw him in the fire day 1

Mayor McCheese

Is this fair to compare him to the #1 Assist to Turnover player in the league?

Hell why not... go get them Junior.

pure genius stuff by Bill Simmons, remember to read day 2

when I got a chance to see him play at the Al he looks like he will be a great team player and look to pass.  I think his playmaking ability will be his specialty and with time he will improve his all around game, and at the same time get in better shape in our facilities.

Junior needs to get cornrows for the comparison to be complete.   ;)

Seriously, I was thinking the same thing watching the game yesterday.  I watched a few videos of Junior and from what I saw, there is some resemblance between Junior's and Levance's game.  I only hope Junior can come in and lead the offense in the same way as LF has done.

As to being a winner and a leader, his team won that big AAU tournament in Vegas last year.  His performance there made him jump in the rankings.  I am hopeful he will be able to start day one.

My question is, how is he doing during his senior year and how is his weight and conditioning?   Does anyone have any info on his high school team's performance and Junior's stats in particular?

wadesworld

I got to watch his team beat up on Tosa East at the Al McGuire Center earlier this year.  From what I saw, his game is very similar to that of Lavance Fields.  He's not exactly the fastest guy, but he is very quick with the ball and changes directions and speeds very well with it.  He also knows how to use his body to his advantage.  His shot is EXACTLY the same form as Levance Fields's shot, and the game I saw he made maybe 4 of 6 from downtown?  But you can tell the kid loves to pass.  He's pass first but when needed he was able to do whatever he wanted with the ball to score.  The high school team he plays on seems to resemble what our team will resemble, with tall, long, athletic wings, and he set up about 4 ally-oops perfectly.  Obviously it was only a high school game, so the competition is not nearly what it will be next year, but seeing that game made me very excited to have him.

You're not kidding.  How the Houston Chronicle can get away with not even covering that team is beyond me.

I found the following story.  This might have been posted here before since it is from last summer.  If you click on the link there is a video interview of him.  He seems excited to be coming to Marquette (as he should be!)

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Junior-Cadougan-5284/

The leader of the Canadian team, fresh off winning the adidas 64 championship in Las Vegas under the name Grassroots Canada, Junior Cadougan (unranked Scout, Rivals, #79 ESPN) has seen his stock rise dramatically over the past few months. He had some very solid games here in Dallas as well, and looks on his way to becoming a very good college player at Marquette in 09-10.

Cadougan isn't going to blow anyone away with his physical attributes, as he's not particularly big at 6-1, and really isn't very athletic either. He's extremely well built and probably around 10-15 pounds over his optimal weight, but is able to overpower players at this level with his outstanding strength, as well as with his excellent IQ and competiveness.

Cadougan is a very unselfish, very confident playmaker, capable of scoring, but showing nice court vision and the disposition of a floor general. He is capable of getting to the rim despite his just-average first step, as he has nice ball-handling skills going left or right and a great sense of timing for when and how to make his forays to the rim. Once in the paint, he really knows how to contort his body, initiate contact and still finish through contact—which is quite impressive for a player his age. He can shoot 3-pointers (although his form doesn't leave him a large margin for error) and is especially effective with his pull-up jumper.

Defensively, he is excellent at hawking the ball and getting in the passing lanes, which helps him get quite a few extra possessions. He competes very hard and is strong enough to not get pushed around, but is limited by his average lateral quickness, which will probably show up more at the collegiate level than it does right now.

Cadougan's upside isn't great due to his average physical tools, but he has all the makings of a solid college point guard. If he continues to lose weight and keeps making strides with his long-range shooting and playmaking ability, Marquette will be very happy to have him at the helm.

HoopsMalone

Once he starts doing collegiate level workouts he might shed a lot of weight and be a better player than we would have guessed.  Very excited.

Murffieus

Before Junior plays any major mpg at MU, he will have to learn to play much better defense than I saw him
play at the Al Mcguire Ctr against Tosa East & Dominican (on TV)-----he was pathetic on D-----I mean all he did is stand around in a zone------has absolutely no fundamental defensive technique whatsoever.

downtown85

Murf, I think that is sort of what this thread is about.  Levance Fields seems to lack lateral quickness and some defensive skills, i.e., he gets beat of the dribble relatively easily.  It appears that Junior probably has the same limitations. I think Buzz recognizes this and I do believe, we may end up playing a lot more zone next year as a result if Junior is the starter.
