I saw DJ's absence so much tonight.
One of the reasons there were so many bad shots late in the game was that there was no penetration and dish.  Everything is passing around the 3 point circle until somebody figures its time to shot a contested 3.  DJ is a much better passer off the dribble.  He would set those guys up for open shots.
Second, he was a steading influence out there.  Now its like there is nobody really running the show.
Third Dom makes it much harder on the guy he is guarding to throw the entry pass down low.  Now its open season.
Not to mention the fact that there is absolutely no depth.
What is so sad is that this MU team was like a giant hypothetical question.  Is it possible for a team of ALL guards be so good and  play soooo well together that they can compete in the best league in college basketball?  Now we will never know because fate has robbed us of that opportunity. The guys that remain are playing their hearts out but they might was well be playing the 4 on 5 .

We had been playing 4 on 5.  Now we are playing 3 on 5 most of the time.

What are the chances Marquette can play the first possession on Saturday 4 on 5,  to honor James?

Would this be an automatic Technical?

Yes, I realize every possession is critical, don't want to waste a TO, etc, etc.

He didn't die did he?  I feel bad for the guy sure, but this is taking things a bit far.

Fair enough, I've just gotten a little tired of treating James' injury as though it is some epic tragedy.  The guy got hurt playing basketball, just like many other people get hurt playing sports.  It sucks that it happened near the end of his senior year, but from many of the posts on this board it sounds as though the guy was killed in some tragic bass fishing accident.

Let's stand and applaud the guy loudly during his moment on Sat., but the idea of tears, and jersey tributes, etc., etc. just seems to be a bit much for an injury that occurred as part of the game.

ecompt

We're not playing 3 on 5 anymore, we're playing 3 on 10. The top schools in the BE have between 10 and 12 Big East-quality players. We simply can't match that. Dwight and Mo play hard, but seriously would either of them ever see regular team on a quality BE team? We will continue to play hard, gbut the manpower isn't there. I had to laugh when I heard Vitale say how Tom Crean left the cupboard full when he left MU.

I agreee with ecompt.  We didn't lose last night b/c of coaching and certainly not b/c the kids didn't give it their all, we were just out-manned.  Nothing more to it.  Crean's inability to bring in a strong class after the Big 3 has made it very difficult which is a shame b/c these guys are such gamers.

+1.

I said it in some other thread, but Crean finding a quality big man that liked the idea of scoring 20 ppg just on catch and dunks from our guards should have been as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.  How he couldn't fill that void for three straight recruiting classes is beyond me.
