MU falls five spots to No. 13

Mar. 2, 2009 12:58 p.m.

Losses to then-No. 2 Connecticut and No. 6 Louisville last week didn't affect the Marquette Golden Eagles all that much in the eyes of the media.

MU (23-6, 12-4 Big East) dropped just five spots to No. 13 in the Associated Press' poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.

UConn, which is in first place in the Big East heading into the final week of the regular season, regained its spot at No. 1 after a one-week hiatus. Pittsburgh, which spent last week in the top spot after knocking off the Huskies, dropped to No. 3.

Louisville, which is right on the heels of UConn in the league standings, remained at No. 6.

The Golden Eagles travel to face Pittsburgh at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, in a game that will have implications for their seeding in both the Big East and NCAA tournaments. They then close out the regular season with a 1 p.m. Saturday game against No. 25 Syracuse.

That game, which will be Senior Day at the Bradley Center, has long been sold out.

MU coach Buzz Williams and guard Dominic James, who's out for the season after undergoing surgery for a fractured left foot on Friday, are scheduled to meet with the media at 2 p.m., so check back later this afternoon for more updates.
