EDIT:  - I just looked at my profile and see that I am ignored by one member.  I don't remember ever pissing in anyone's cereal.  Who the heck would ignore little ole me????

I saw this too late to listen (I'm assuming).  did it happen?  is it over?  can anyone post a recap?

mu_hilltopper

He hasn't been on yet.

I've listened to a few minutes of Homer's show before .. but wow, his show is just awful.   I love him calling MU games .. and I suppose I don't listen to any other sports call in shows .. but wow, is this full of insipid stupidity and blather.

I think I'm actually dumber for have tuned in these past 20 minutes.

Please, get DJ on quick so I can turn this off.

SERocks

He is obviously using the James interview as a teaser to make us stick around.

Ack.

Come on, put James on!

No DJ, no reason to listen to the babbling, idiotic Homer. Thanks for the update.

Chicago_inferiority_complexes

What kind of ratings does his show get? Or 540 in general? I can't imagine he's got a lot of regulars.

Doris Burkes Thong

Did Homer say that DJ wasn't going to be on because I apparently missed it?

MU B2002

He cancelled due to treatment, and one of the guys was blasting him for it.  Saying if  you are going to cancel don't commit.

Thank you for filling me in.

I used to listen to Homer in the early 90s when he was on WISN-AM.  At the time, he even had some fill in gigs during the early days of ESPN radio.  Now he's pretty bad.  I think sports talk radio has gotten so much better and he's just the same old doofus as he's always been.

I'm not a Chicago guy, but I stream Boers & Bernstein on WSCR pretty much every day.

Yeah Homer and Mac do a decent job on the call for MU games, but his daily show is downright awful. I'll listen to Jim Rome on 540 but otherwise I prefer 1250 AM for sportstalk.

540 is very dependent on national programming. They do Mike & Mike in the Morning (which is pretty good), Tirico and Van Pelt (pretty boring), Jim Rome (great stuff), and then Homer. Homer is really the only local flavor. He is also the weakest link on a very mediocre station.

Niv Berkowitz

There isn't a "sports radio" host out there that's an ill-prepared for a show as Homer. He knows nothing. Can't rattle off basic facts or recent games, or examples to illustrate his point. He's the worst.

What's worse is that he has the audacity to call his show "The World's Greatest Sports Talk Show". Seriously, that's an insult. I mean, at least "The D List" gets it right in that it gets a "D" for a grade in that it is so wretched.

NotAnAlum

I beleive that Homer's show has really gone down the tubes since he moved to 540.  When he was on WISN it was a "professional" show that mostly focused on callers.
I don't know if it is the time slot (Homer on WISN was on from 6 - 7) but as others described it his show is just a lot of time wasting blatter.  There is very little interaction with callers.  Most of show is him being silly with "Mitch" and talking about their stupid dash for the cash and a bunch of other stuff that sounds like inside jokes.  Its too bad because I think Homer is a knowledgable and insiteful guy.  If you watch him on TWS 32 he is professional.  Its almost like the small-time-ness of 540 has caused him to lose it, like he doesn't care.

MUfan12

I have listened to Hometeam for years, but recently it's gotten much more difficult with Mitch ALWAYS chiming in. He's annoying, and brings down the show in general.

But it's still easier than trying to comprehend what Gary Ellerson is mumbling at the time.

My guess is that the blathering is due to the fact that no one chooses to call in.  My bet is they probably would put through just about anyone who would call, but no one picks up the phone.  That's the sign of a talk radio show with low ratings.

There isn't a decent thing on 1250 during weekdays and listening to a garbage disposal filled with quarters for 2 hours beats the Big Unit's show on 620.  At least with 540 the D-list is ok and despite Homer's short-comings he talks more MU than the rest of MKE radio combined.

To me the most annoying trend in all sports radio is the "let's fawn all over some hot girl who knows a little bit about sports, even though when we talk to her it will have nothing to do with sports and more about stroking our collective egos."  Just about all local programs have their variation, and all of them are lousy.

Can't agree more. The guy doesn't have the basic knowledge of MU that someone in his position should. He recently answered the question "how long has MU been in the Big East?" by replying "Since Wade." We played 2 more seasons in CUSA after Wade left (admittedly, they were pretty forgettable). Not a huge deal, but to a guy who is supposed to know about MU, kinda pathetic. He also rambles..recently spent literally a half hour talking about how he was almost late for a pregame, getting there only 45 minutes before tip off.

Homer needs to stick to the basics (sports). And he need to get his facts straight. Then I MIGHT be able to listen.

Chicago_inferiority_complexes

I don't know terribly much about all the local programs, but it is kind of astounding to me that with all the sports going on in Milwaukee/Wisconsin and also generally in the midwest (Minneapolis, Chicago), a serious and reputable radio broadcaster hasn't developed on the air in town. It's not like there isn't a market.

Chili

both 1250 and 540 are pretty bad. 1250 rely's way to much on callers and most are morons. who the hell cares what joe six pack thinks - i don't. the d list is pretty good. i just wish old guy radio would come back.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Boers and Bernstein are by far the best sports radio guys out there.

MUBasketball

I am blocked from streaming audio at work, so have to rely on my radio. For some reason, 540 comes in fuzzy and it's tough to get a good signal. Once I'm in my car, the signal is clear. I dont get it. Anyway, I get 1250 real good so I mostly listen to that...although I can't stand it.

Doug & Mike in the morning are pretty good, I got no beef with those guys really (although Wicket had the most ridiculous comment ever a few days ago, saying Ben Howland isn't that good of a coach...wow, you can tell he doesn't watch college hoops much).

Dan Patrick is annoying.

I have a love/hate relationship with Rome. I think he's annoying too, but yet I find myself laughing through most of his show, so he must be doing something right.

The Big Show drive me completely nuts. Most of the time I have to turn the channel I get so pissed. Josh Vernier is a big crybaby, pissing and moaning about something all the time. I actually like Gary Ellerson. He gives the English language such a beating it isn't able to defend itself. But, he typically defends the athletes, which is my philosophy as well...well, talking about college athletes anyway. I hate talking heads on the radio that just blast everybody. Which leads me to Sparky, who is beyond annoying. He also has no idea what he's talking about.

Sparky hosts the NBA post game show, Brewers post game show, Packers post game show, NASCAR Final Inspection show, a prep show.....you getting the point? I never have listened to any of those shows but they play ads for them about 500 times a day. I think that guy sleeps a few hours, and otherwise he's on the radio. How can anybody be knowledgeable about that many different sports??? I am a very casual sports watcher, but follow college hoops religiously and whenever he gets on the topic, it's painfully obvious how little he follows it, and then I get all worked up listening to him blab inaccurate comments.

Moral of the story: sports radio annoys me, but I need something to listen to at work.
