I saw Joe in the game and thought, 'cool, Buzz is expanding his bench.'   Then the TV timeout arrived and he was never heard from again.   So, according to the JS boxscore, he played 0 minutes, but had a rebound.

that's got to help his PER.

That was really odd.  I mean, he couldn't have been in for two trips down the court, what .. 25 seconds?  That was enough to go "I thought he was ready, but those 25 seconds prove I am totally wrong.  He's done for the night."???

Actually, if we do the math, 1 Rebound/0 Minutes played = impossible.

Therefore, his statline should read, "Black Hole."

Skatastrophy

I read a quote from Buzz a while back that he likes to give guys an extra 15 to 30 seconds rest before a TV timeout.  Putting Fulce in for 30 may seem like a wasted effort, but that extra 30 seconds of rest, when added to a TV timeout, may have been what Burke needed to battle fatigue.

I agree that it ends up being a weird line for Fulce at the end of the game, but I understand what Buzz is trying to do to maximize his starter's time on the court while also trying to make sure they don't get too tired.

Homer just asked Buzz about Fulce and playing time.

Basically said he missed too much practice time and game time to provide us with the best chance to win.  Sounds like he is fine health wise and that he will make a solid contribution next year.  Buzz said that this Spring and summer will be very important for Fulce.  He said that he knows Fulce better than any other player and that he is like a son to him.

All that may be true, but, Fulce contributed significantly on Jan. 17 at PC.  Has he regressed?

One additional point, with DJ out for really, two games, against UConn and UL, our subs have done a great job which begs the question:  If they could do a great job against two of the toughest teams in America, why weren't they utilized more often during the season to give some of our starters a break?

Not hating,  just asking.

I agree that they've done a good job (I wouldn't say "great", but definitely very acceptable). However, I don't mind that they hadn't been used more. The players that they're backing up are outstanding, and more importantly in response to your point, they are all apparently in good enough shape to play close to 40 minutes a game. James was able to play close to 40 minutes a game so there was no reason to find the subs some time since he was hands down the best option at PG. Same goes for our other stars.

Fulce might have contributed during the PC game but lets not get carried away.  For all the points he scored on the offensive end, he gave up that and more on the defensive end.

I am not thrilled with Buzz's use of the bench as I feel he failed to create a situation where the bench knew its role.  Playing time was all over the board and players usually struggle when they don't know if and when they are going to play but Buzz does have a point.  His starters are far superior to his bench players and its hard to play the bench when the other team goes on a scoring spree when we have more than 1 bench player on the court at the same time.  If Fulce, Acker, Otule and Cooby were better defensive players, they would have seen a lot more playing time but all of them struggled badly on that end of the court.  The bench didn't have to make leads bigger, they had to protect them and they most failed miserably.

Easily the most significant contribution he made was poking Xavier in the eye, leading to on court shenanigans.  Hilarious.
