3 broken feet, on 3 players in one year so far. Coincidence?

I am not intending this to be a criticism of Buzz or the coaching staff but I am wondering if there is something being done wrong on the strength and conditioning side? or whether it is the shoes? or something else that could cause 3 broken feet out of 13 scholarship players over the course of one season?

Is there anything one can do preventatively to help players avoid such breaks?

MUCam

You'd need someone with a medical background to explain whether certain strength/conditioning programs or a particular type of shoe might make a player's foot more susceptible to this type of injury. That said, the same thought crossed my mind as I woke up today.

Are we wearing the same shoes as last year?

I blame the Converse shoes.    Although I am pretty sure somebody landed on Otule's foot.

How about the fact that the floor at the Bradley Center is a slip 'n slide.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

coincidence and bad luck.

that is all, shoes do not matter.

they could probably go out there in bowling shoes next year and probably not break their foot.

The Man in Gold

I'm not a doctor, but I don't think you can blame broken bones on strength and conditioning (especially breaks on the interior of the foot).  Maybe the shoes, but I tend to believe its more of a coincidence.

Doesn't buzz have a masters degree in kinesiology?

Considering his strong attention to detail, if there is a flaw in their strength and conditioning program, I trust that Buzz will figure out the problem and address it.

RJax55

Definitely something to look at, but I don't know what conclusion to really draw.
Let's look at the foot injuries:

Otule: Appearly, his foot was broken by another player stepping on it at practice. Tough luck, but those things happen.

McMorrow: Foot injury at the beginning of practice, after the Buzz boot camp. McMorrow is new to the game and it quite possible that he was pushed too much at the beginning of the season.

DJ: His broken foot occurred on a non-contact play, after making a quick move on the baseline. DJ has played a lot of minutes this year, was that an contributing factor? On the other hand, he is a senior that has logged heavy minutes for MU since his arrive to campus. Really, no conclusion to draw.

Injuries happen plain and simple and there is nothing you can do to prevent that from happening other than choosing not to play.  One was from contact (Otule), one was caused by intense conditioning (McMorrow) and one was from no contact at all (James).....

Maybe they just aren't drinking enough milk?

New practice ritual to go with the hand sanitzer, after every practice they each have to chug half a gallon of milk!

damuts222

Injuries during practice are never good, but happened under crean. But these injuries are not from overpractice but could possibly be from the minutes james has played and mcmorrow is just not accustomed to the post yet.

If I recall, New Orleans fans were complaining about injuries as well from a few years ago.   Injuries do happen, they are a product of chance and unfortunate luck.  Though the more minutes you play the more susceptible you are to one of those unfortunate occurances from happening.  Wear and tear might be a factor, but I'm not a doctor so it's pure speculation.

I don't know if they'll be able to determine if this is stress related, a fluke break or what have you.  It's unfortunate no matter what.  Buzz's hands were pretty much tied to who head to play a ton of minutes for the most part.

Time to see if Mo and/or David can come back to last year's performance levels.

I suspect you will see us zone up a lot more as well since we're down one of our best on the ball defenders.

Plain old fashioned bad luck. There are way too many forces and other factors involved to blame it on one thing.

I blame Majerus.  Maybe Raymonds.  Probably Tex Winter.

I'd look at the shoes - we slip far more than any other team on the floor at the BC?  And we slipped a few times in the UCONN game - Jerel slipped a couple of times.  Seems odd to me.
