Please, no "overrated" chants
« on: February 25, 2009, 07:52:02 AM »
I know, I know. Let's win the game before we talk about winning the game...but I have to put this out there.

Everytime a lower seed beats a higher seed, the closing minutes are just about guaranteed to be littered with "overrated" chants, taunting the other team.

Don't do it. Just don't do it.

Think about what it actually implies: "Marquette could not possibly beat a team as good as #2 in the country, so UConn must not deserve that rating."

UConn is one of the best five teams in the country, without question. If they lose to Marquette tonight, that won't change. All it will mean is that NOBODY can come into the Bradley Center and beat us, no matter how good of a team they are.

its lame, overused, and usually just as denegrating to the team chanting it.

"WE ARE, MARQUETTE" has a much better ring to it.

Any overrated chants are clearly just our students recognizing that it is us that is overrated.

And while we're at it, can we say the same for rushing the court?  I don't think that would happen, but seriously, if we can pull this game out, let's act like we've done this type of thing before.

Because we have.  So can we all please agree to stay off the court when the game is over?

The overrated chant won't happen tonight, I just don't see us using that one.  I agree, Uconn is clearly an incredible team and deserve a lot of respect, but hopefully we can bump 'em off tonight!!

Now as for rushing the court... we're not allowed to anyways.  I would love to be able to do it once (wasn't around the the C-USA win, which is the last time there was a court rush), but it won't happen so no worries for those of you who are against it.

Man, this game is gonna be AWESOME!!!!  WE ARE MARQUETTE!!!!

Why chant "overrated" when you can chant "We're #1?"

We can, could, and in some ways should win tonight, so let's not imply that it's a surprise.

I would like to see a "Calhoun Needs A Pay Cut" chant though if we do win.

Why do a chant that discounts a big win??? I never understood it.

The only way that chant will be used is if we blow them out.

Not likely. But if we're up 15+ in the final minute it'll probably happen.

But i agree.

The message you really want to deliver is "Yes...you are that good.  And YES we just kicked your a--."

Now if some smarty communications major could just work that into a reasonable 'chant'.

How about something along the lines of "you're good, we're better" a la the miller lite slogan "taste great, less filling."  Divide up the arena and yell back and forth.

It'll never happen, but I've been doing nothing but day dreaming of tonight all day at work.

Rushing the court....overrated chants.....aren't we all putting the cart before the horse?  I feel like the ultimate jinx is upon us.

MU has a good shot of winning tonight but it's going to be a tough game.  Let's not get to far ahead of ourselves in how we plan on celebrating.  This is far from a given W.

Chants are crucial through out the game. Not just at the end. And if it is "Calhoun needs a pay cut." That is too long. Should just be PAY CUT! PAAAY CUT!....PAAAAAY CUT! And that is appropriate at any point in the game.

Even though I felt he handled that reporter appropriately. Too much dancing around these days in the media. Nothing wrong in being a little pissed off. The reporter was aware that that wasn't the proper venue. But I digress.

I believe:

in unison by 19,000+ would accomplish this task.

+10000 to this thread, but i'd be willing to bet that it'll still happen if we're about to win. i could honestly care less, though, as long as there isn't a "f**k the huskies" one. "overrated" is stupid, but the latter one is just classless.
