Does last night?....
« on: February 18, 2009, 10:07:03 AM »
put an end to the nauseating drone about how we need to get the bench more minutes.  That group can give up a 10 point lead in a blink of an eye.  Does anyone really think those guys help us in any way at this point.  Next year is a new year and after spring and summer workouts will be ready to start with a fresh and hopefully healthy slate, but non of the non players right now do anything but hurt us in a huge way when they are out there.  You see how far this team falls off when someone like Wes is not out there, or that we are 0-3 when Jerel fouls out.  Pulling one of our top 6 players out and putting in one of the others is simply a recipe for disaster.  Acker simply killed us for the few possesions he was in the there.  Please no more play so and so threads.  They should get a minute or two during the last minute or two only if we are up 20+.  Dont blame Buzz blame the douche who recruited them.

Should we also 'blame' him for having a top ten team?

Good observation.  When two first year players, a walk-on, and two undersized reserves were all in at the same time the team got worked.  No one is calling for the bench to be cleared with 8 minutes left.

I would have loved to see Otule worked in with the Big 4 after we got an 18 point lead with 8 minutes left.  Then sub Fulce in for one of them with about 6 minutes left.  Fine, that didn't happen.  When it got to a 24 point lead at the 4 minute tv timeout, there's absolutely no reason Fulce & Otule weren't in the game with 3 of the 4 starters.  If by some miracle the lead dwindled to 10 with 2 minutes left (not possible with 3 of the big 4 out there), then put your best lineup out there.  Wasted opportunity for some game time for two players we might actually need later on if we get in foul trouble.

+1... but I don't want to get another debate going about the departed.

Clearly Acker's performance was disappointing last night.  He obviously struggled and was the most responsible for the blown lead at the half, but he also hasn't played at all this season, so can you really blame him all that much?  I don't blame Buzz for trying to feel out who he may be using to back up Dom come tourney time either... someone's going to need to give Dom a rest.  There's no way that the 6 can hold up through the BE tourney and still make a run in the NCAAs without getting any rest.  To say that no one but Butler should come off the bench is a bit ludicrous.

Basically, yes our bench isn't good, but they are going to need to go into games still to give our stars rest.  It's just the way it is in basketball, so I suggest we support them the best we can and just have faith that they'll come through for us!

And pray that two players don't get into foul trouble at the same time.
