Correct me if I am wrong
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:24:39 AM »
but if we win 3 out of the last 5 games.  we clinch 2 byes in the big east tourny.  Win four with a loss versus cuse or GT and we win conference.

I know these are long shots but am I thinking right?

Also a nova loss to rutgers is really helpful in getting that second bye.

All we need is 2 out of the next 5 to get the bye.  I really think Nova will lose two more.  ND and someone else.

I was assuming Nova won out.  every loss by them and providence helps us

But does three wins get us the double bye?  That would be good to know - something to shoot for.

three wins should get us a bye because we would have a victory over louisville, uconn, or pitt, and thus we would win the tie breaker.

Right, but top 4 get two byes  correct?  Would three wins be a lock for top four?

Totally... I think Georgetown is a huge game as I think most winnable to least winnable are GU, Cuse, UL, UConn, and Pitt.

Not quite, but close. At this point, it's between us and Nova. Nova could potentially go 14-4, in which case, 3 wins for us would also get us to 14. Then it would come down to tie breakers, of which there are several scenarios that I can't break down for you. But, 3 wins would be about as close to a lock for a top-4 (double-bye) finish as you can get.

3 wins would leave us potentially tied with Nova for the 4th spot.  We split the season series with them, so the tiebreaker would be record against the top teams in the league, in order by final season standings.  They lost to Louisville and UConn and beat Pitt.

It's impossible to say who would get the bye in a tie until we play those three teams and the final standings are established.
