MU remains at No. 10

Feb. 16, 2009 1:39 p.m.

Despite an 18-point loss at Villanova last Tuesday, the Marquette Golden Eagles remained entrenched at No. 10 in the Associated Press' media poll released this afternoon.

MU (21-4, 10-2 Big East) rebounded from that loss with a victory on Saturday over St. John's, and was then helped by a great deal of turmoil above it and below it in the poll.

In all, nine teams in the top 16 in last week's poll (aside from MU) lost at least one game.

Above the Golden Eagles, Louisville dropped from fifth to seventh after a a 33-point shellacking at Notre Dame, Wake Forest dropped from seventh to eighth after a loss at North Carolina State and Duke dropped from sixth to ninth after losing twice, to North Carolina and Boston College.

With 1,045, MU actually was just four voter points shy of moving past Duke into ninth place.

There was no change atop the poll for the third consecutive week, with the Connecticut Huskies remaining at No. 1 in advance of their epic battle tonight with No. 4 Pittsburgh.

The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Seton Hall (14-10, 5-7) at the Bradley Center.
