From yesterday's ESPN Chat

Joe (Oak Lawn): Where do you see Dominic James being drafted if he comes out this year?

Jay Bilas: He shouldn't come out. He needs another year to refine his game. He needs to improve his shot, and work on being more dynamic off pick and rolls. This is a really loaded year, if everyone comes out. He would benefit from staying. He is a first round pick, though. Love that kid. He is a great prospect. Great kid, too.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

for maybe once in my life, I agree with Jay Bilas, I cant stand him usually, but that is what I would say about James right now too

dj has played like a first rounder for about 5 halves of basketball this year.   He has played decently most of the time, awful for a small amounts of time, but he has only been transcendent and taken over games for about 5 halves.   Not yet a lottery pick, but this draft may be thin on point guards, so he may go anyway.

bingo.  With Ron Steele's knee problems -- which PG would go ahead of DJ?

lets hope all of the talented frosh class and then some comes out --- hansbrough, hawes, budinger, oden, horford, hibbert, green, wright, durant, the kids at GaTech, Wright, Davidson, Big Baby, Marcus Williams and more........that'd clog up most of round one and we have not even gotten to the foreigners  ;D

Singletary out of UVA would be ahead of DJ.

I don't have any idea how draft picks are rated, or what scouts look for in a player. That said, as a scout, would you look at those 5 halves of outstanding play and think "if he was practicing and playing full time, he would be outstanding."?

I mean, I look at Wade, who was a great college basketball player. But I never expected him to blossom into the outstanding professional player he's become -- especially this early in his career. Now that he lives basketball, his natural athleticism can be coached into prime basketball shape.

Anyway, I think James will take the first available opportunity to leave. And for that kind of money, who can blame him? Don't bench warmers even make $300K? That's more than I've made in my career to date...

I still think there is no room in the NBA for a PG who is under 6' who can't shoot the three ball.  Love James, but until he hits the three ball with consistency, no room in the NBA for him

I'll leave Kyle Lowry off the list for now because he was a decent shooter at Nova....but not now

There's room for DJ -- especially in the new, wide open NBA.  None of the guys above made it to the league based on their jumper.

Well Muggsy Bogues, Spudd Webb, and Earl Boykins would all disagree with that statement.  The NBA is all about athleticism and potential - and James is very high on both of those attributes.
