It starts already with ESPN.  On ESPN.com, their cover story is Spring Training.  Pictured are AROD, Ortiz, Manny, CC Sabathia, and Jake Peavy.  That's 4 of 5 players either currently playing with the Yankees, Sawx or in Manny a player without team most identified with the Sawx.  Does ESPN realize that there are more teams and players than just these 2?  Do they need to be reminded that the Phillies won the Series, and bet the Rays to do so?

They have no interest in dispelling their ESPN bias.  I think its shameful.

ESPN is a for-profit company.  It makes sense that they'd pander to teams that have the largest fan-base and can drive the most ad revenue.

I tried to find some unbiased sports coverage on http://www.pbs.org/ but the only place that the word "sport" appeared was in "transportation" :p

Any for-profit company is going to make decisions with its pocketbook.  Its not fair, but neither is life.

I understand that the Yankees are in the biggest market and ESPN could focus more on them, but they so overwhelmingly focus on them and that its at the expense of the other teams.  ESPN is continually criticized about their East Coast bias which they refuse to acknowledge and yet they continue to fuel the fire.

What's the problem...have those guys, save for maybe Ortiz not been the stories of this off-season?

They didn'y just put up a picture to put up a picture. It might help if you read what its about...

A-Rod? Obviously.
CC? Biggest FA signing.
Manny without a team? Kind of sums up the odd FA period.
Peavey? One of the best pitchers in baseball and has been surrounded by trade rumors.

If you can think of guys that should be pictured that are more representative of the off season storylines, I'd like to know who they are.

I read what the story was about, but it still doesn't help as you can make stories about many players and teams as the season gets under way.  First of all, what about the phils - will Cole Hamels carry the momentum of the playoffs and become a CY Young award winner?

What about Ryan Howard - a "good guy" who's clean who has a chance to get to 60 homers if he can come out of gate strong?

Since the phils won the series, one of those guys should have been pictured instead of ARod - I'm bored already and Ortiz who can't be justified on here.  And is CC that compelling - he signed a huge contract - so what? Someone does with the Yanks every year.  I'd rather see ESPN promote winners on the field instead of promoting someone who's getting buzz b/c of his new contract.

That's just it though, ESPN didn't make the stories...the stories were the stories. Nobody cares about Ryan Howard or Cole Hammels. They are fine players, but they are in no way off-season stories.

BTW, is CC that compelling? Yes, he is. Unless of course you missed the final half of last season, and aren't aware of the incredible contract he signed.
