I know a lot has been posted on all the interactive BS during the Nova game but was anyone else irritated with the goofy camera angles?  I found myself turning my head at times in an effort to "right the world."

Overall, the coverage was better than when it's on channel 32 and half of the game is filmed from a 1/4 mile away, but I figured as long as we're beating up on ESPN I'd check to see if I was the only person trying to figure out what the deal was with the camera angles that the announcers were raving about.

TVDirector

missed the tv broadcast, so I am not certain what 'goofy' angles were being referred to.

had shot at the Palestra, and it's not a friendly tv venue-

hoops has a pretty standard camera setup...
2 up middle (1 always game, 1 tight action and 'hero')
1 each behind the basket
bigger shows will have back endzone or slightly off center
maybe something real high or a robo under the scoreboard or on the basket (nba style)

key is keeping allshooting on the same 1/2 lengthwise of the court.
otherwise action/direction isn't true to the viewer.

This almost seemed like the cameras they use in the NFL that are on a cable system except it didn't move with the players.

In my complaint letter to the ombudsman, I complained about that too.  Especially a few times when they were shooting free throws the camera seemed to sort of drift very slowly which was disconcerting at best.
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

They had an overhead cam that the broadcasters mentioned a couple of times (the "wave-cam", I believe).  Unfortunately, they kept switching to it while the teams were playing and it would cut off the top or bottom of the court, which put the ball off the camera about a quarter of the time that they used it.

Looks like there's probably more to that camera, but it just didn't seem appropriate for basketball.

Worst. Angle. Ever.

All it showed was the ballhandler vs. defender while showing nothing of the action going on up the court.  All of a sudden one guy is making a pass and you have no idea who it is going to...
