Here's your official thread for all of the most pathetically tired, rehashed complaints!
1.  Why don't we "practice" FTs?!?
2.  How have we won ANY games with no bench?!?
3.  How could we give up THAT many points, to top 15 team, playing their best basketball of the season, AT HOME, and SHOOTING 60+ PERCENT?!?
4.  GASP!!  The dreaded last 5 games!!  How will we win THOSE?!?

Get a grip folks, we've got  a great record right now, we ran into a buzzsaw tonight, we've got 2 easily winnable home games, that we should be RAZOR focused for, and by god, I'll take my chances with UConn and the 'Cuse at home with this bunch.  Plus, we've beaten GTown already, and historically have played well at Pitt.
Also, all of the DJ haters...haven't seen a post about McNeal's AWFUL shot selection tonight.

Seriously though, they really should practice free throws...

Seriously though, they should score more points than the other team   ::)

I think they do and that is why DJ thinks so much.

Woe is us! We're the most overrated team in America...if not the universe. At this rate, we probably won't even make the NCAAs OR the NIT! CBI here we come!

Really reminded me of that game against WVU a couple of years back, when Gansey and Pitsnoggle went off. Just seemed helpless.

Buzz threw a couple of different defenses at them, but when a team shoots like that... not much you can do.

Sure would like to have that USF game back though.

I agree totally.  We tried to throw different looks at them and they kept on making shots.  There is nothing you can do.  I might be the only one here, but I thought we played decent.  I thought the defense was OK, average.  I don't remember a ton of layups (like Providence).  Basically, Villanova did to us in the second half what we did for like a 5 minute stretch in the first half (6 for 6 from 3, if I recall properly)

Not sure but I think Nova was about 50% from the field in the first half and ended up close to 60%.  That means they shot about 70% in the second half.   It sucks but that happens.  Fisher is a 28% 3 pt shooter and he was where the ball ended up with the open three.  The only problem is that he sunk it.  He went 4 for 5.  Clark is a 26% 3 pt shooter and he hit 3 for 3.  I am over it.  They are a good team.  We beat em at Milwaukee, they beat us at Philly.  Losses happen.  Big East is all about taking care of business at home and they took care of business.

Just saw on crackedsidewalks their eFG was 65%!!  I swear they must have made like 6-7 WTF?!?! type shots, the 3 at the end of the half was ridiculous, and there were a couple Cunningham jumpers where Burke was totally in his mug, and he canned it anyway.  Also, they shot 72% in the second half!!  I think I would categorize that as "unconscious."

It was absurd.  Like that game in WV a couple years ago.  We just ran into a buzzsaw, plain and simple.  I don't think anyone could have beaten Villanova last night.  Villanova was unstoppable and played almost perfectly.  They kicked our butts and kicked 'em good.  All you can do is tip your cap to them and move on to Saturday.

There's still 7 games left, and they're all going to be tough.  We'll win some; we'll probably get the court wiped with us again.  It's the Big East.  It happens.  But you know what?  I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sure, Nova was hitting a high percentage last night but they also were shooting uncontested shots as many of our rotations were late or slow. These are BE players, so when given an open 3-pointer, I would expect players to make them. Part of that also had to do with our bigs being in foul trouble, causing others to help in the post. I take it as something that happened in one game and certainly not a trend.

lab_warrior

There were several shots they made that were off balance, or very well defended, that went in.  Yeah, there were some wide open shots, but those don't ALWAYS go in, even if it is a BE caliber player shooting.

I thought MU played hard and for the most part, played well.  Villanova was just on fire and nothing we did defensively worked.  Even DJ, who is a great defensive player, could do nothing to stop REynolds.

We'll pick up the pieces and turn things around.  It just wasn't our night last night and it certainly was Nova's.

the posts by "experienced" members of this forum which try to beat the naysayers to the punch are getting obnoxious. after a loss, you just about have to expect some negativity, right? on another thread new members are being chastised simply because their post count isn't as high as someone else's, its kind of ridiculous.

That being said, I'm not sure what has happened in the last two losses at the FT line, because before that MU seemed solid from the line...I hope they can rediscover that part of their game which could be credited for a number of wins this year.

OregonWarrior

If you leave Division I Big East players open consistently, they are going to beat you. Simply saying Nova was on fire is an easy excuse. Sometimes, there are reasons teams are on fire. For example, Providence did the same thing to MU in the first half of the game there. Then, the team adjusted in the second half. Last night, the adjustments didn't come and the rotations were slow.
