"In case you're wondering, that's Indiana band director Dave Woodley, who apparently wasn't prepared to have a sweaty, Diet Coke-fueled college basketball coach to come jump on his back. Apparently Dave Woodley wasn't a boy scout. Tsk, tsk, lightweight. "

Yeah Tom is alway cool calm and collected after games ;)

I am not taking sides on the whole Tom Crean thing...but I wonder if Buzz would be arrested if he did this?

MUsoxfan

Missing was the footage of him cutting down the net and phoning in an order for a banner to hang at Assembly Hall

chcsportsfan

they seriously celebrated like they won something important, like a conference title or a trip to the final four...still cant believe this gets more headlines then some of our games...

Daniel

and then TC calls him a lightweight - wow - becuase it wasn't TC's fault the guy fell over - lol

NCMUFan

Maybe Tom Tan did the right thing.  Expectations sure aren't to high in Hoosier land.

Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Coach Norman Dale

Two points:

1.  This video shows what I said yesterday -- contrary to a posting here, the Indiana fans did not storm the court, which would have been uncool and embarrassing; and

2.  What is wrong with the coach and players acknowledging the fans who have supported them through these extremely difficult circumstances?  It is a long road IU faces to get back to where it was, and the fans have been great.

I know some people are still upset about TC leaving (and how he left) but try to be objective and look at the totality of the circumstances.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with acknowledging the fans.  Jumping on the band director's back...that's embarassing.  As I've said many times here, I generally liked TC and am really apprecaitive for what he did at MU.  But as excited as he is about the win, he needs to act like he expects to win against the bottom feeders of the Big 10.  Thank the fans, walk around the arena, but keep your wits about you.

When I read the initial summary yesterday that used the "victory lap" language, I thought that was unfair.  I think those words have kind of a negative connotation when what I figured he was really doing was just walking around thanking the fans as he should (I gave him the benefit of the doubt).  But, jumping on the band director's back was just too much.

Sorry there coach norman , but I  what I think is pathetic and I beleive most people would agree with me is the fact that Crean jumped on the back of a 70 year old man and then not only lacked the class to help the guy up but also called him a lightweight in the process!! OMGoodness.  That is an absolute lack of class, sure you beat Iowa, yippee, but again as I and others have stated numerous times it does not give one an excuse to act complete devoid of class.  The man is a f'ing loser.

Lighten up Francis.

Not sure that getting excited and playfully jumping on the band director is a lack of class.

Nerdy? Yes.

Lack of class? C'mon dude. Get real.

So what!!!!!!  He got caught up in the moment.  I seem to recall our coach getting caught up in the moment too and blasting Jimmy Mac for no reason whatsoever.  Now that was embarrassing and totally uncalled for.

But as far as acting like he expects to win.  Have you seen the Indiana team this year????  They are horrible.  Only two decent players, at least one, Williams, is a freshman and bunch of Frozenas out there.  It would be like us trotting out Butler, Fulce, Otule and a bunch of walk-ons going up against the Big East.  Any win this year by them is a huge a win and should be celebrated.

The majority of you need to get over this Crean obsession of bashing him for everything.  He left.  He is not our coach.  Get over it.

Agreed.  See, I am perfectly capable of both criticizing and/or complimenting both coaches.  It's not an either/or thing for me.

I agree.  It was a huge win and he had every right to celebrate.  But, Crean went to Indiana because of the type of program that it is -- it's one of the top programs in the country.   I think when you're in a program like that, even when you suck, you want to set a tone for your team and fans and act like you expect to win -- even if you really don't.

We agree again -- lots of people here need to "get over it."  But, feel free to search my posting history and try to prove that I'm one of the people who keeps slamming Crean.  I've commented that I didn't think he was real good at making halftime adjustments (and I don't), but I've hardly been one of the board's Crean bashers.  I would categorize myself as predominantly pro-Crean and often have defended him on this site.

I'm sick and tired of having to preface every thing I say about Crean by saying that I generally liked the guy.  But just like there are lots of people on this board who slam Crean for anything and everything, there are plenty of people like you who respond to any post that is mildly critical of Crean with posts like, "He left.  He is not our coach.  Get over it."

I will be critical of Crean (and Brey, and Calhoun, and Thompson, and Ryan, and...) when I see something that catches my attention and I feel like commenting about.  And I will be critical of Buzz sometimes too.  In keeping with the tone of your post, when it comes to Crean, "He's not perfect.  He'll make mistakes.  Get over it."

Just another Crean cheap marketing ploy to create some false excitement.

Good points.  I look at it as, Crean cleaned house in Indiana and considering how tough of a season it has been, he went a little overboard in his exuberance.  The good news for Crean is that well since it is Indiana and it does have a storied history, he can use that to his advantage and build that program up quicker into a winner.

Didn't mean to lump you into the majority.  I rarely look at who posts what.  That comment was not directed right at you.  It just seems like a lot of posters here feel jilted by the way Crean left and they feel the need to bash him whenever they can.  I didn't mean to offend anyone but the constant bashing of a former successful coach does get old and tiresome.

Exaggerate much?  Try 47.

Here's the band director's bio:  http://newsinfo.iu.edu/sb/page/normal/847.html

A 1983 graduate would be 46-48 in 2009.  But you're not one to let facts get in the way of a deranged rant, are you?

An outright lie--the tape shows Crean trying to help him up, first trying to lift him from the back, then extending a hand.

Yes, and it was in an obvious joking and playful manner--which apparently you missed. Very similar to how O'Neill used to refer to Will Gates' shooting ability.  Except I think O'Neill actually believed Gates shooting sucked.

The hint you may have missed was that a) the band director was smiling afterward and b) he gave Crean a hug after he got up.
