Agreed on all counts. Although I was pretty sure BC security didn't let us rush the court after we beat UConn. Can someone confirm this?

Confirmed. They put the gates up in front of the student section, preventing us from rushing. I guess the BE leverages a pretty hefty fine when a school's fans rush.

I wonder if Providence got fined when Xavier's bro "rushed" the court?

IAmMarquette

The only court-storming I remember from my time at MU was the 2003 CUSA regular season championship. IMO, court-stormings at Marquette should be reserved for championships only. If UCONN comes to town ranked #1, and we're still a top-10 team, a victory would hardly be rush-worthy, unless of course it wins us the BE regular season title, which isn't likely to happen with 3 games remaining.

Maybe not win the BE, but if we're going into the game at 14-0, a win would guarantee a top 4 finish.

Now, we just gotta get to that 14-0 thing...

Heck, I think Indiana has a more legitimate case for rushing the court because they actually won a game than Clemson does for beating Duke.  Low expectations I guess.

No reason, zero, that we shouldn't be #5 if we can beat USF.

Good luck getting past the fence and the wall of security behind it.

Actually the last court storming took place after a sweet 16 win in 2003.  The venue was the metrodome in minneapolis and mu just beat Pitt.  The mu student section stormed the court, security at the metrodome were completely taken aback and unprepared.  Was it embarassing?  yes, in hindsight, but extremely fun at the time.  I attempted to shake tom crean's hand, but he was visibly upset at the students presence on the court.

What can I say we were overwhelmed with emotion.

Some more pathetic court-stormings tonight:

#10 Clemson over #3 Duke - not an upset, didn't clinch anything, don't think it was a historic win or anything but I might be wrong.

Indiana over a bad Iowa team - did Indiana really lose that much self-respect? I know it's a bad year but c'mon you look stupid!

Exactly. Clemson beat Duke in the semifinals of last year's ACC tournament. Clemson has now taken two in a row from Duke. I saw their students on the floor and was just thinking "Jeez, you're a top 10 team. Act like it."

The most pathetic court rushing I've personally witnessed was in 2004 when DePaul students rushed the floor after beating an unranked Marquette team at home. It was made even sadder by the fact that for DePaul to empty their student section, it meant that like 25 people were on the floor.

I watched the end of this game and the IU fans did not storm the court.  I was afraid they would -- cause, face it, students love to do it for about any reason -- and told my son how uncool that would be if it happened.  All I saw was a rush of media and security move onto the court.

Who else gets annoyed by the overuse of storming the court. Happens way too often. Definitely has lost its meaning. Good job Miami, you beat the #6 ranked team. Good win, but worthy of storming the court???? You gotta have pretty low expectations for your team to do that.

I was a student when MU finally beat ND after 12 straight losses spanning 6 years in Dec 89 - and yes we stormed the court.

MU B2002

Storming the court in late '98 or early '99 after a vicotry over the then #2 ( I think) Bearcats was one of the biggest thrills of my Marquette experience.

Yes, we did storm the court in '89 after we beat ND.  I was a freshman and remember it well, a few security guards took out some students but most made it onto the court.

Is it possible Clemson jumps past us in the poll?  Can we be ranked #5 without beating Pitt, L-ville or UConn?

Actually, what I seem to remember from a court storming within the last 5-6 years was that security was set up with the wall for the whole game, but within the last couple of minutes took it down and allowed the students to rush the floor.  Not sure whose call that was to make.

No bs4173 , that is not how it works.  If you are a top ten team and beat a number one team at home it is not a huge upset.  Unless that is the game we clinch a championship with I hope students show restraint.  Not sure if it's possible for us to clinch that early though.

I agree wholeheartedly, but these guys did not say it did impact the team, did they?  I also do not think that my watching or not watching a game, wearing certain items of clothing to or while a game is being played, sitting in a particular chair, holding a special stuffed animal, participating in voodoo chants, etc., has an impact on the game either.  But maybe that is just me.

Help me out.  Am I missing something?  I thought the point of this and all message boards was to waste time.  By coming here to read and/or post I am choosing to waste time, and I appreciate all of those who help provide me a forum to do so -- regardless of whether or not I agree with what you write.

At least that is what I use it for -- to waste time.  Nothing anyone posts here makes me a better person, nor do I expect that anything I post improves the quality of life of any other posters/readers.  [On the outside chance I am wrong and something I post DOES make any of you better, happier, etc. to you I say "You are welcome, glad I was able to be of assistance."]  ;)

I thought Cincy was #1 then...Security didn't seem to happy about us on the court though.  I got pushed in the back a few times with someone on my shoulders.  One and only experience for me.  Glad I had the opportunity though as it was one of my college highlights.

If you were to make it you would proabably be removed within 10 seconds.

In 2003, the tables and everything were on the otherside giving a fairly clear path to the court.  The two rows of chairs were the only real obstical.  Now the tables, in addition to barracades make it nearly impossible to get on the court.
