First off, no donations! I promise.

Secondly, I would never do this if it weren't for such a good cause, and I figure the people who use this site would support it....

Many of you--especially if you went to MU within the last 20 years--are probably familiar with the student organization called Midnight Run. The name is a bit confusing, but basically it serves as an umbrella organization for all of the food programs with which MU students volunteer. Some of them include Gesu Parish's Saturday meal program, St. James Church's breakfast program (the church next to Straz/East Tower), and a handful of other homeless, family and battered women/childrens' shelters. It's part of Campus Ministry, and hundreds of students participate in it annually.

If you're wondering how legit Midnight Run is, here's the webpage: http://www.marquette.edu/um/serving/midnight_run/midnight_run.htm ... and here's a cool story that ran in this month's issue of Marquette Magazine: http://www.marquette.edu/magazine/recent.php?subaction=showfull&id=1232046655&archive=

Anyway, doing good is part of being a Marquette student, but all this good costs something. To help defer costs, Midnight Run is registered with GoodSearch, which is owned by Yahoo!. Every time somebody who chooses Midnight Run as their charity does a search, a penny is donated to the group. Easy enough. 100 searches = $1. The money is generated from Yahoo's ad revenues.

Basically, you just go to http://goodsearch.com and in the "Who do you Goodsearch for?" box, type in Midnight Run. Choose "Marquette University - Midnight Run" and you're all set. The only issue is that if you clear your cookies, it resets the charity. You can even use GoodSearch as the little search toolbar in the top right corner of your browser (works for IE, Firefox, and Google Chrome): http://www.goodsearch.com/Toolbars.aspx

Like I said, this would be a shameless plug if 100% of the money raised didn't go straight to funding sandwiches, soup, hot cocoa, brownies and utensils for people who can't afford such things. And hey, next time you need to look up dirty trash about a certain rival Big East team's members online, you can at least support MU and students who have better things to do than swim in their own egos while you're doing it  ;)

As a former Midnight Runner, I appreciate what the young MU men and women do to help care for the local homeless or needy folks.

I still remember making sandwiches, loading up the soup containers, and driving down to the library for food distribution.

Some good times with some good folks.
