New Power rankings are out on ESPN.com and we're ranked #9.  Which is down one spot from last week.  Not a big deal, no team ahead of us really lost, and MSU jumped over us from last week.  But when you look at the individual rankings, Fran Fraschilla left us off of his top 25 this week, which is pretty much the only reason we got jumped by MSU.  I'm thinking that Frannie must have just forgot about us since we were ranked 8th in his poll last week.

Besides that, its interesting to note that Andy Katz has us at #3.

But Andy Katz hates MU and is always looking for an excuse to trash us.  ::)

Interesting to note, Katz has Big East teams at 1-2-3.  Consider we have a 10 game winning streak and UConn and Louisville are at 8 and it's not that hard to imagine a climb in the power rankings with all the losses being dealt recently.

As far as consensus #1 Uconn, they've played a BE schedule comparable to us.  They still have to play Pitt twice, Louisville on the road, and us on the road.  Hard to believe they enjoy a long stay on top...

Fran Fraschilla doesnt even have MU in his top 25, whats with that?

mugoose

he is a moron. he turned down the asst job at mu a couple years back. he'd probably be our head coach now. we probably wouldn't be as good as we are if he was our coach.

he is an idiot

Just keep winning.  I'd love for Fraschilla, at some point in the season, to have to explain why Marquette entered his to 25 at No. 7 or something like that.  If we* keep winning, they'll eventually have to acknowledge us.*

Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Everyone outside of Wisconsin seems to have a visceral response to people referring to our team like that.

I think, in Wisconsin, we have become desensitized to it because we have always referred to the Green Bay Packers that way.

I really think that Fran must have forgotten us when he compiled his top 25.  There is no other reason he would have left us out.  If you look at his poll from the previous week, he had us in there at 8.  There is no way that beating DePaul and Notre Dame caused him to drop us at least 17 spots.  That still doesn't mean he isn't an idiot.  I mean he is paid for this.

Also, I have no problem with people using us to describe Marquette, as I do it myself.  What I do have a problem with is when people say that we shouldn't look ahead to other games because it will cause us to lose focus on teams like Depaul.  Identifying with the team is one thing, but believing that you actually have an impact on the team by what you talk about is another thing.

How does the chant go?  "We are Marquette," I believe....

It sometimes irks me when fans will talk about the teams as if they were on them... but honestly WE get caught up in the obsession that is sports and lets us believe we are a part of the team. But I do understand some of your feelings that we really have no effect on the team...

But I think there are only 2 exceptions for this rule that you should allow for

#1- If it is a college you attended... as is the case with Marquette, many of us have paid a lot of money and are part of the university

#2- Cheering for the Packers especially after buying shares of the Packers, make you technically a "shareholder" and "owner" of the team... even though the shares are estentially just donating money to the franchise, it is the idea that the city owns the team that is special and you can say we I feel...

If you went to the school then it is your team and you can say we.  I will also buy the Packer shareholder angle but other than those two reasons you shouldn't use us or we.

Fran made a simple oversight.  He likes MU this year and has said as much during ESPN broadcasts.  He mistakenly left Marquette off the list this week.

Sure, but how do you not just pull up last week's rankings as your starting point for this week?

MU tells me every home game that we are the "best sixth man in the country" ;)
