Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

The General has taken on a new command.

Must be in bad shape for a buyout of the final three years of his contract would be my guess. And I'd guess there aren't a lot of enthused DePaul boosters out there right now that would be willing to step up and provide that finanical assistance if that indeed is the case.

And this take from the Daily Herald today.  Class act...that said, the troops are restless.  I do think next year will be much better for them.  They do have two potential NBA players on that team now.  Experience in the BE is so critical.

They can fire him, but who are they gonna hire? This is very similar to when Dean was fired at MU, MU made the commitment at that time that their basketball program was exteremely important - they needed to be in the Top 25, NCAA torunament, etc. Simply getting rid of Mike Deane was not going to do that, unless it was accompanied by additional money, etc. - things Tom Crean no doubt demanded (correctly) as part of accepting the job. If DePaul is prepared to make that same sort of commitment, then make a change, but simply replacing Wainwright with some guy willing to take the job without DePaul agreeing to a list of demands is not likely to accomplish much.

The fan base was shocked last night when the Trib came out with an article that not only does the AD want to keep Wainright for next year, but Wainright was given an extension to 2012 based on making the NIT 2 years ago.

This is totally BS.  We have another Norm Roberts.  That doesn't make it in this league.

Your guy Buzz gave him a vote of confidence in the press too.  Don't see what others see in this guy?  Guess things like record, player development and successful recruiting don't mean much.

Buzz is extremely complimentary of everyone.  I wouldn't take it as a recommendation of Wainwright by Buzz.  It's just part of Buzz's persona to play himself down and build up other coaches, teams and players when speaking publicly.

OK, Buzz wouldn't talk badly about other coaches.  That's fair.

But, just put a Welcome sign on DePaul's back.  They will be the league doormat for a while.

Just buy MU season tickets.  The drive time is about the same to Milwaukee as it is to Rosemont  :P

Sweet, more games with the hapless "principal from Breakfast Club" coach.  Great idea, giving him an extension a couple years ago, DePaul.

That is exactly my guess.  If someone steps up to not only buy him out, but to shell out the $$$ to next coach, like MU did when Crean was hired, he isn't going anywhere.

To Wainwright's credit, he's cleaned up the program.  I heard the kids on the team are good kids and are on pace to graduate.  Now if only he can win a game or two . . . .

I have a feeling that by the time the season is over they will upset someone.  They might only win a game or two in the BE but they could surprise someone with their young talent.

I also thought I've read that Wainwright was one of the first coaches to acknowledge one of Buzz's now infamous letters.....

I fear it's going to be ugly at Allstate tonight.  Fans are turning in their remaining season tickets.  (or so they say) Blog sites are organizing chants and boos.  Admin e-mail is posted all over for students and fans to object.  It won't be pretty.

Now it is suspected that Wainwright's extension was a recent event, because recruits feared uncertainty in a Coach.  And, he can't last 1 remaining year as a lame duck.  But, to appease disgruntled fans, it was released that the extension was agreed after the 07 season.  Now, why would no announcement ever have been made since 07?

The entire Admin is suspect now.

The program is in the dumpster.  Only wins can pull it out.

Wainwright is a drunk

Is that why he looks like he has aged 10 years and has lost weight?

A student did write in and said Jerry gave him a 6-pack.

I did not know that there were problems under Leitao.  Didn't he run  a pretty clean program?  I know it was terrible when Fat Pat was there.

I couldn't find the exact thread on the DePaul board, but some of their fans alluded to the fact that several of Leitao's recruits had not graduated (namely Sammy Mejia if I recall correctly).  Wainwright has definitely cracked down in that respect.

Also, on an unrelated note, the MU Alumni Assoc. apparently got another block of tix from DePaul for Tuesday at Allstate as well just this week.  I would not be shocked if it's 75/25 MU or higher at Allstate next Tuesday, considering how their fanbase is fleeing in droves.

I know one thing about Leitao from sitting about five rows behind the DePaul bench at a CUSA tourney game in his tenure. His language might make Kevin O'Neill blush. I've never heard MF used so many different ways in a two-hour period, as a noun, a verb, an adjective, an adverb, I think maybe even as a preposition.

The only players who have graduated in the past 4 years have been Leitao's recruits.  Mejia didn't.  Chandler Didn't.  Burns didn't.  Can't find any info on Clinkscales.  Will Walker was Wainwright's first real recruit, and he is a Junior.  Others of note, Woods, transferred out, and Moses was released from school.  We'll see if Currie and Poscic are going to graduate.
