Life is good for the Golden Eagles

Jan. 27, 2009 3:37 p.m.

The Marquette Golden Eagles are still undefeated in the Big East Conference and the season's biggest game of the year will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Bradley Center against Georgetown.

The game is a sellout, and ticket prices are beginning to climb on the various ticket broker Web sites.

Mike Broeker, Marquette's deputy athletic director, said this afternoon that, from a business standpoint, the season has been a success. In addition to the Georgetown game, the final home game of the season against Syracuse on March 7 is a sellout.

Official capacity for Marquette games is 18,600, but that can fluctuate somewhat depending on suite sales and club sales.

Broeker said there are about 1,700 tickets left for the St. John's game on Feb. 14. There are plenty of tickes available for the Feb. 17 game against Seton Hall, and there are just over a thousand tickets left for the Connecticut game on Feb. 25.

Broeker said the university and Nelligan Sports, its sports marketing partner, are meeting budgetary goals for sponsorships. And retail and merchandising will likely pick up once March arrives.

"March is like a new season," Broeker said, noting that casual fans start to take an interest during March Madness.

Marquette has averaged 15,154 fans per game so far this season. That puts Marquette third in the Big East Conference behind Louisville (averaging 19,459 fans per game) and Syracuse (averaging 19,549 fans per game).

I can't believe the UCONN  game is not sold out!

It will be.  It's a month away and their are less than 1,000 tickets left.

So, what you should have said is "I can't believe the UCONN game is not sold out a month before tip-off.
