More Love from Andy Katz....

Tom, Milwaukee, WI: Andy, do you think it's only a matter of time before Marquette falls back into place in the middle of the Big East pack, or have they finally turned a corner and are ready to make a legitimate tourney run?

Andy Katz: No. I don't see a Marquette drop. I'm convinced the Golden Eagles are here to stay this season. The veteran guards are too good to let it occur.

So much for all the people who say Andy Katz hates MU, huh?

I'd still like to know where the "MU hate" stuff comes from.  Just because he's a Badger?  I don't even know if he's from Wisconsin originally, in which case he probably never cared enough to dislike MU when he went to college. If anything, I've found him to be overly optimistic towards Marquette.  Yes, he was always rumor-mongering about "Crean to X", but 1) many of those rumors probably had some truth to them, and 2) it's his job, and I doubt prospective recruits turn to the Andy Katz rumor mill when trying to see if the coach they're thinking committing to might be leaving.

I talked to Andy for quite awhile in New Orleans when we went to the final 4. I was at a bar in the french quarter and he strolled in.

He couldn't have been nicer. If he dislikes MU he sure did a great job of hiding it.

Could someone ask Andy if we will make the final four? And when will the economy hit bottom?

Andy does not hate MU.  People think that becuase Crean used himas his person pawn to wave his name at every job opening that came about.  Therefore, Mu fans felt he must hate MU.  Actually, considering Andy's age, I am guessing early forties he was probbaly never even a basketball fan while at Wisconsin.  There were not many of them back then when UW was perennially the worst team in the BIg 10 for a Fifty year stretch.

Duh.  Of course he doesn't.  THere isn't a national sports writer that knows more about MU than 90% of people who post here on a regular basis.  That said I bet he knows more about any conference or any team other than the BEast than 90% of the people who post.  I reas MU news daily, katz has to cover 300+ teams, yes we know more about OUR school then he does, if that makes him a putz it makes every non-local writer a putz.
