This is just sad : http://failblog.org/2008/08/29/global-warming-fail/

PS- How many years does the average temperature of the earth have to go down before people stop believing this nonsense?

Mayor McCheese

Believing the nonsense of global warming?

You think that the way we live doesn't affect our environment conditions?

And in reality, in some parts of our world, the world will cool instead of get hot, and the fact is the word "global warming" is just a bad term for it.

The idea that this person you outline gave is a terrible one, I will give you that

However not believing in our affect on the environment, and the need to change the way we live.... to me thats a person that is crazy.

Don't want to trust me... then trust experts....

The sad thing is our government knew this information in the 70's and didn't do anything to alter our affects on the planet, and now there is a cause of concern.

Yeah I have a hard time believing a guy (Al Gore) telling me that I should try to use less and be more earth conscious when he's running a 30k a month utility bill......

I with Dr. Kary Mullis (Noble prize winning bio-chemist) who believes this is all a farce to enrich with the use of scare tactics......

The USA should spend less time on worry about what we do to the earth and spend more time in India and China telling them to stop polluting our world as they have no restrictions on emissions and about 1.7 billion more people than in the USA.

I love this...

This warming is largely attributed to the increase of greenhouse gases (primarily carbon dioxide and methane) in the Earth's upper atmosphere caused by human burning of fossil fuels, industrial, farming, and deforestation activities.

Says who? 20,000 years ago, North America was covered by ice. Yet somehow, the glaciers melted without the aid of man burning fossil fuels, industrial, etc...How did the ice get there in the first place? Could it be that the earth has gone through continual cycles of climate change through the past few billion years prior to the industrial revolution?

So the earth is the warmest it has been in the last several hundred years. So what? What does that prove exactly? Nothing except the earth is the warmest it has been in the last several hundred years (not to mention the recent trend is actually down).

For the record, I am all for conservation, recycling, re-use, etc, because it all makes sense, but put me firmly in the myth of global warming camp.

But why attack two countries that won't listen to us... instead do something in our own country in which we can control.

I never once brought up Al Gore, as Al Gore is a bit looney... however, the idea of bringing up one scientist when I can name dozens more who do believe in global warming... do we need to get in a name dropping fight?

Honestly, your right, to empty out a gallon of sea water to lower the level is crazy.  But the ice caps melting is no coincidence.  The idea of the ice caps melting and bringing the cold ice water through the Atlantic Jet Stream... cutting off the warm water from hitting Europe, specifically England... cooling their country, seems there is something there... doesn't it?

Am I really the only one on this board that believes that we have an affect on our environment.. and right now we are hurting it?

Yes, but history beyond the past couple hundred years would seem to suggest that something is probably the normal heating and cooling the earth has always undergone, and thus it is not exactly a coincidence, but the timing more than likely is.

IAmMarquette

Is the earth warmer now than it has been in the last few hundred years? Yes.

Are humans directly responsible for this warming trend? I'm not sold.

Should we take measures (e.g. reduce use of fossil fuels, recycle, etc) to "reduce our carbon footprint" and "go green?" Yes.

Heck, I'll jump in before this thread gets locked/deleted.  I agree with all of your thoughts above, and I'll add one that really pisses me off.

Should schools try to scare our elementary school children into believing that we are all in grave danger of extinction from an imminent environmental disaster?  No.

I'm all for teaching my kids to "reduce, reuse, recycle" but I really object to the fact that my children are being taught to believe that disaster is imminent.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Amen Brother.

Here is a book I got for my daughter...not bad. If you have pre-teen age kids, I guess I'd recommend it.

The Amazon reviews are of course hilarious because the Global Warming zealots got wind of it and attacked it because it dares to question their unsubstantiated positions.

Which experts?  Plenty of experts on both sides of that argument McCheese.  People believe what they want to believe.  The other day you made a statement about a certain person that might have been VEEP and dinosaurs.  You believed that, even though snopes has shown it to be 100% incorrect (I sent you the link privately).  People will believe what they want to believe.

Here's some other experts views

If you're wondering why North America is starting to resemble nuclear winter, then you missed the news.

At December's U.N. Global Warming conference in Poznan, Poland, 650 of the world's top climatologists stood up and said man-made global warming is a media generated myth without basis. Said climatologist Dr. David Gee, Chairman of the International Geological Congress, "For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?"
I asked myself, why would such obviously smart guy say such a ridiculous thing? But it turns out he's right.

The earth's temperature peaked in 1998. It's been falling ever since; it dropped dramatically in 2007 and got worse in 2008, when temperatures touched 1980 levels.

Meanwhile, the University of Illinois' Arctic Climate Research Center released conclusive satellite photos showing that Arctic ice is back to 1979 levels. What's more, measurements of Antarctic ice now show that its accumulation is up 5 percent since 1980.

Global Warming, now euphemistically being renamed "climate change" since the planet has actually cooled in the last decade, is nothing more than another attempt by the left to redistribute the wealth of the US to the rest of the world by use of cap and trade, carbon offsets, etc.  A good reference material would be "Climate  Confusion" by Roy W. Spencer and another good read on the subject is "State Of Fear"  by the late sci-fi writer, Michael Crichton.

Climate change, when it comes is a natural part of earth's ebb and flow. is not man made and is largely a hoax to get funding or achieve some nefarious political end.

Many issues for centuries have been debated with both sides claiming to have experts.

The "experts" claiming the earth is flat.

Many "experts" in the late 1930s denied the holocaust was occuring.

All the "experts" in the early 1980s claiming that AIDs was transferable via contact.

All the "experts" across the world knowing about Saddams cache of biological weapons.

And now global warming..No way in hell am I intelligent to know either way, but in every debate one sides "experts" are always wrong.

I'm not sure if you meant this for teal usage or being serious but either way it got a laugh out of me. Thank you.

Wiz - how you can't comprehend that global warming is caused by the hot air out of politicians mouths is beyond me  :P

Now please, since we have it settled, please keep politics out of the discussion.  If you think that the global warming topic is all political, you shouldn't be discussing it here.  If you have some science to present, then by all means feel free.

Gwaki

I'm pretty sure if we all just ate enough Real Chili we could easily cause Global Warming.

I don't think global warming thinkers would fall under "certain people who should be sterilized" because I can think of SOOOOO many more "deserving" people.

What an idiotic thread.  My favorite is the bonehead who is "with" Kary Mullis.  Probably can't discern PCR from CPR.

I know that a break between games, but let's try and keep it to bball.

But I like to throw handfuls...

Thanks PJDunn.....

I used Kary Mullis as an example because he is a skeptic......but thanks for the vote of confidence in my knowledge of DNA replication methods. I couldn't perform CPR to save my life.

I thought the original linked post from failblog was funny and worth reading......nothing more, nothing less.

Have Al Gore spend one winter in Erie and he'd change his mind in a freaking heartbeat.
