Wondering if anyone can help me out with the Fulce situation.  Is it still possible to put a medical redshirt on him?  I think I remember him in 2 or 3 games, but he has been "active" for many more.  Does he have to enter the game in order to have it count against eligibility?

If not, then why not just redshirt him?  Its reminding me of the Mbakwe situation, he obviously isn't ready to compete.

MUfan12

To be eligible for the medical redshirt, he needs to play in less than 20% of the team's games, all in the first half of the season.

So I'm not sure where the UC game falls, if it still counts as the first half of the season, they could do it.

How old is he anyways?

1 year of prep, 1 year of juco? right?

So he's really a junior age, but soph. eligibility, right?

If he redshirts, he'll be a senior age, but soph. eligibility? I'd go for that, but who knows if he would even want to do that. He could be playing until he was 24/25.

With Mbakwe, he was coming off a surgery that you knew would eventually heal it just needed time.  With Joe's injury that is still an unknown.  Given what Buzz has said about it, the injury is not the kind of thing that will heal over time, and having surgery to repair it at this point would mean a recovery that last into second semester of next year if not beyond that.

So then the question becomes, would he be a more effective player post surgery than he is now.  That's also an unknown given some of Buzz's comments.  He already stated once that he thinks Joe will likely never be back to where he was athletically prior to the injury.  Given that his entire game was based on his freakish athletic ability, if that's gone what else is there?

Little work gets you this http://gomarquette.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/fulce_joseph00.html

Born in 1987. So he's 21.

thanks.

Yea, so he'll be a senior's age next year (and if he redshirts, a soph. eligibility)

I hope he plays this year, but if he doesn't, he could be a nice to have around for a few years.

I don't know if he wants to be in college until he's 25... but he could be a pretty solid player for MU.

Also, I could see him and Hayward starting next year as the forwards. I'm sure Maymon is sweet, but this team will need some experience out on the court.

Joe might not get a ton of experience this year, but it would be good to bring the frosh. off of the bench for a while. (esp. if MU is starting a frosh. PG).

Maymon has been quoted that as of right now, the 2009-2010 starting 4 spot is his to lose right?

He never said the 4 spot, just a starting spot.

hmmm...

Ok, well, I guess I will have to stand corrected.

I mean, maybe Maymon or Fulce could start at the #2, but not likely.

I trust that Buzz knows what he is doing... I just think next year could be rough with MU's young line-up (not Buzz's fault, just the hand he was dealt).

Admittedly some teams have succeeded with going young (including MU 3 years ago), but the newcomers better be pretty special to make it work.

When MU did it 3 years ago they had one of the best frosh. in the country (james) and a NBA player in his senior year (Novak).

Maybe Maymon and Lazar will be those guys next year.

Why?  It's not as though Fulce will have a great deal of experience by next year.  Might as well start the better player - and that will be Maymon.

You could be right, Pastor.

the last line in one of my previous posts was:

"Joe might not get a ton of experience this year, but it would be good to bring the frosh. off of the bench for a while. (esp. if MU is starting a frosh. PG)."

I'm just trying to think of ways that MU can balance talent and experience. I'm sure Maymon is very talented, it's just 2 or more frosh. make me nervous.

I trust Buzz though, so I guess I'll just leave it up to him.  :)
