ok they are all in now. O'Tule just got an O board off a missed Free throw then scored on a post up.  It was pretty ugly but at least he scored

tower912

Let Otule play the rest of the way.   Maybe Fulce's knee is still tender.   If not, he will be in soon.

Chris is in and scoring, but it wasn't pretty.

Coobie in as well, but still no sign of Fulce

shut up chicos!!  Otule got double digit minutes Fulce and cubi got 5.  More than enough.  WEs is in at the end because the 10th man is Frozena.  Give it a rest guys Buzz has this team playing so well.  This team would never be playing this well with the egomaniacal overcontroling last coach.  even the announcers admitted the past caoch was too controlling anf rsstrictive.  we are playing the best offense and defense we have played since 2003 when we had Dwade

Blackhat

I knew when I got to this board guys would be bitching about sub-ing in the bench too late.   Crean never used to sub in his bench until very late and I agreed with him, you can still work on your game in a blow out.

Buzz has said he thinks Fulce may never get back to his old self,  lets just pray for the kid that his knee heals.   I'm sure Buzz will play him the minutes he feels he is ready to go.

Norm

really mr. hayward? when did the announcers say Crean was too controlling? Must you bring Crean up in almost every post?

+1. Crean's at Indiana. Who cares? Let's start judging the decisions Buzz is making on whether or not they win games, instead of how things happened last year.

Once Wes hit 17 to match his season average he was out of the game.

UPDATE:  Opps, his average is 19...he was at 11 or 12 when they took the rest of the starters out then he got to the line a few times and put himself right around his average.   I think Wes has the highest NBA potential because he plays within himself and within any system.  He also gets to the line and makes FTs.  An NBA backup or role player has to be able to do those things.  He may also get the benefit of the doubt in the second round with all things being equal with other available players that his dad played in the NBA.....a nice thing to have as a tiebreaker.

MR.HAYWARD

on two or three separate occasions Mike Keelly stated Crean "ran too many sets"  and it restricted many times MU ossnse and specifically mention on numerous occasion it hurt Wesley.  Very complimentary of Buzzes offense.  Best defense we are playing in 10 years also IMO

ErickJD08

Announcers did criticize the playbook.  Said that the playbook might have been a bad thing since Matthews got lost in the mix.

I thought keeping Wes out there at the end was a great coaching move, even if it meant a little less clock for Fulce.

Wes has the highest basketball IQ on the team, and its good for him to be out there with Chris and Jimmy, to give direction and be an extension of the coach on the floor. He's done this in the past, and it's good for the bench guys to play with a starter out there.

sigep80

Good post MUfan - you have to have at least some experienced players out there, or else the negative posters would be screaming about the disorder.

lab_warrior

With the bench guys, I think it is good to have at least one starter, or experienced player on the floor.  Helps with the execution, and Wes was able to get some guys some nice open looks.
But I did seriously think he was only leaving him in to get to his average, that was foremost in my mind.

MR.HAYWARD

i beleive he left Wes in to keep things from turning into a pickup game too early.  Fulce got 5 minutes, otule 13 and cubi 9.  i beleive if anyone proposed that to chicos before the game he would have been happy yet he complains about buzz when it actually happens.  Did you guys watch the last 5 minutes?  brutally ugly.  got out scored 10-2 or something?

tower912

Up 40, who cares?   Got much needed play for the bench.   Finally, I really think we are splitting hairs/nitpicking a little here.    How many of Buzz's decisions/choices can't be defended?   We can debate a little around the edges, but we are 13-2 (2-0)    One loss was the second game in two days when we were getting nothing from the bench, the other was a 1 possession game with 2 minutes to go against a ranked team in their backyard.    We have survived a major late transfer and two team changing injuries.   If the biggest thing we have to argue about (other than the merits of a former coach and the hiring process for the current coach) is bench minutes in a blowout, then we are truly blessed.

Probably, but I don't think Chico (or anyone else) was expecting a 33 point lead.  If it would have been a tight game down the the last second, I don't think Chicos would have "complained" about even less playing time.  As the title of this thread makes clear, Chico (and any other reasonable fan) recognizes that the game situation influences substitution patterns.  I think these guys should get as much playing time as possible as long as playing them doesn't jeopardize the team's chances to win.  This can only benefit the team in the long run.  Maybe you feel differently, but saying so really isn't a "complaint" about Buzz.

It seems to me that this is a pretty good argument for giving these guys more playing time against a better opponent (as compared to the non-conference opponents) when the outcome is secure.

It's hard to argue with that.

MR.HAYWARD

tower i agree with you about being up 40 and it not mattering.  The issue is that wes being in their at that point was not keeping Cubi, otule, or Fulce out of the game.  they were all in at that point.  yet certain people are complaining those three should have gotten more minutes.  the person who was not playing due to wes being in was frozena.  I will aslo say this given the short amount of time Otule has been out with a broken foot it is most likely he is in no better shape than to play more than 13 minutes.

tower912

If Otule keeps progressing and starts improving his post defense and defensive rotations, I envision a scenario where he starts coming in, playing hard for 2 minutes, going out and working his way up to averaging 10-12 minutes a game.

absoltely i beleive that two week period where we only have 1 game is huge for fulce and Otule.  Comes at the right time before the grinder starts

You've mentioned this a couple times - but I think the real advantage is that they was cleared to play and practice before break - when team practice restrictions aren't as tight as when class is in session.

As for Fulce - I'm not sure his knee is feeling that great yet - so he'll play more if/when his body allows him.
