Have teams such as Georgetown and USC always used the We Are statement like we do?

I was at MU from 70-74 and I can tell you that NOBODY used that at that time. We'd go to NCAA tourney venues and literally rock the place with that cheer...it was something that made us very unique and very proud. It actually kind of ticks me off that someone didn't think to copyright that as Texas A&M has with their "Twelfth Man."  >:(

USC used the "We are, SC" in the 60's.

I was particularly steamed when Dayton was using it during the thanksgiving tournament... "We Are . . . UD!"

My old roommates and I came up with

"M-U, Know What it Is!"
(T.I's "You Know What it Is")

I'm honestly not a big fan of the "We are Marquette" chant, and people always mock us at neutral sites / places we have a vocal presence when we're losing, much like Dayton did...Duke did it at Hawaii.

Nonetheless, I still bark it out at the games.

I dig the We Are chant.  About 100 of us had it going after DJ's 3 at NC State.

The look on the hundreds of faces of NC State around us is something I will never forget.

for anyone traveling to the Joyce Center, just note that the ND comeback to "We Are" is

"You are... Marquette"

great comeback

Explain how that works.

Something like "We are..Doo-kie?"

Haha, it should have been, right?

It just sounded choppy and stupid:  "We are Duke!...*clap*...We are Duke!....*clap*...We are Douches!"

i was around in the mid 70's. Plenty of schools did that. We were hardly the only one. Now, "Give Em Hell Al" was unique.
