I submit that today's "difference maker" was our 10 made 3's.

DJ hit 4 for 9 and Jerel hit 4 for 8.

Amazingly, Hayward only went 1 for 3. I thought he'd shoot it more.

Agree with the above....but also we need to thank VU for taking some crappy threes between the 6 and 3 minute mark in the second half.  We were getting pounded inside and they take a bad 3 and we rebound and allow us to get an 8 point lead that we were able to protect when it was FT time.
When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.

You beat a zone by getting the ball to the foul line.   We didn't do it often enough, but 'nova's defending of 'Zar at the foul line left the wings open.   Best we have looked attacking a zone in years.

From JSOnline,

The Golden Eagles have struggled with their free throw shooting at times this season, but hit 13 of 14 in the final 2:40 on Thursday.

That is because of who was going to the foul line.

tower there are a number of ways to beat a zone.  yes one of them is to get the ball to the flasher at the ft line.  he can dribble, shoot or distribute from there.  yes.  but you acan also shoot your way out of the zone,  drive from the wings or run baselinefor postup, cuts or shots to mention a few ways of ttacking the 2-3.
in fact after 2 shot clock violations the 1st two times we saw the zone we actually then scored 3 staraight times against it and they came out of it.

My only point was instead of always flashing Hayward, i would like to see us flash Wes and or Jerel and leave Hayward the opportunity to shoot us out at times.  i think Wes and Jerel are relatively effective at the FT line.  they were there the most last year and were quite effective when we would actually get them the ball.  Wes is such a good decision maker form there and can actually get to the rim on occasion there.

Good observation.

Wes has shown that he can get to the rim and draw the foul more this year than in the past.

Jerel can also do that, but sometimes settles on the J.
