And the II,II faithful are begining to question TT. Complaints about inability to crack a zone, offense dribbling around, then jacking up a 3. Where, oh where have we heard this tale before?  ;D

MUSF

Seriously?

We're still doing this?

You have to enjoy Crean's misfortune while you can.

In a few years he should have Indiana back to power.  I mean it shouldn't be too hard to recruit there.  As much as it sucks to hear it is Indiana after all.

I'll thank Crean for all he did here.  I'll also hope nothing goes right at Indiana for the way he left.

rugbydrummer

it's kinda funny though; it's just like what i bet most people do when they deal with a bad break up/get burned by a friend; demonize the other guy, watch for the person to make a mistake, fail.

Well, at least those of us who aren't going to be canonized  ;)

I think it is more in reference to the infalibility of Crean that the II,II faithful are given him. They think he can do no wrong. Suddenly, there are questions arising that are sounding awfully familiar.
Funny more than anything.

I really only care or want MU winning.  Don't really give a hoot about IU.

tower912

My personal anger at Crean lasted about a week.   He saw what in his mind was a once-in-a-career opportunity and took it.   He handled his leaving poorly and has left us woefully undersized.   He will be successful at IU in the long term, because he WILL have recruiting advantage he didn't have here (and Buzz apparently doesn't need).    This season is his penance for the way he left.   Its karma that he deserves in the short term.   It may teach him humility and make him a better coach.    But he will find the IU faithful make the MU fanbase look placid and timid in comparison.    Good luck to him.   He will need it.    If he is no better than what the deepest hater here think he is, he will get a nice buyout in a couple of years and go into broadcasting.   If MU was holding him back, he could end up a legend.

Nick Williams has the body of Big Baby, but is short.  Hope he's having a good time at II.  Those two pricks deserve eachother.

Will following IU and hoping for losses pass? Yes
Does an IU loss trump an MU win? NO

Is it still, here early in year one post-Crean, fun to watch him falter? Absolutely!

As TT mentioned earlier, it's fun while it lasts, so I'm gonna bask in it, especially when coupled with a clutch Warrior win.

Norm

Regarding the way Crean left, couldn't someone from IU have leaked the news before Crean got to tell his MU players? From what I recall, the players started to get contacted about the time the news broke on ESPN. Would those who bash him for the way he left town be as upset if he had told the players before the news broke?

Even having success under Bruce Weber it took many Illinois fans five years to let go of their hatred of Bill Self (which subsided quickly the moment Self won a National Title last April).

IMO, those Illini fans looked pathetic each and every day of those five years.

I've talked to slews of IU fans who don't feel Crean possess any level of 'infallibility'.  But they do feel, probably correctly, that he will get the elite big men he didn't get there because of the school's name.  Most feel like this will be enough to overcome any of the percieved faults, and I haven't seen a single reason to disagree with any of them.

MUfan12

As was said earlier, it amuses me more than anything. There's just something great about seeing the guy that screwed us by leaving no depth take a beating.

That, and the Crean and Crimson shirts make me want to puke.

You mean the ones his friends and family were wearing all over Milwaukee this summer?

I happen to enjoy my Crean and Treason shirt, myself.  ;)

he had a press conference at Indiana before the MU players knew. That's not something you do if you're leaving.  When you have to find out from someone's mom who saw it on the news, there's something wrong with that.

I'm not condoning Crean's departure, but that's a false statement.

Word leaked on ESPN and all the media outlets prior to his telling the players. Word leaked in the afternoon on April 1st. He got the team in vans and had them come out to his house to tell them personally late afternoon/night on April 1st. Afterwards, he flew to Bloomington, where he was introduced on the morning of April 2nd.

Really?  I've been reading posts for months about how he had a press conference before the players knew.  That would explain a lot if it was just an unfounded rumor by hatists.  Could one of the mindless haters please weigh in on the timeline here? And no, 'Crean wanted it to leak to ESPN' is not a statement i'll buy without significant backing.

MuMark

MUbasketball is right. The news leaked on ESPN but there was no press conference until after he talked to the MU players.

Crean has made amends with Father Wilde and the MU administration. He knows he handled it badly and has apologized.

Some fans love to hold on to the hate.
