Heard many a Badgerphobe say "what if TC signed Nankivil?"  Came across this comparison on Statsheet comparing these two.  Barely a difference.  Gotta give DW some love during the holiday season, a guy who always plays all out.  Let's hope our arriving depth takes hold over the next month and Buzz gets to an advantageous rotation--with our guys in their natural roles.

Yeah, I remember everybody getting worked up about Nankivil just like TTaylor now.  I will say that Nankivil might have been used differently by us, as more of a post-up player, but the few times I've seen him, I have DEFINITELY NOT been impressed.

All of this is fine, other than the fact Burke is a Sr. and Nankivil is a sophomore.  One of them can get better, the other is barely serviceable as a senior.

4everwarriors

Nankivil is 10x the player Burke is. Had Crean been able to sign Keaton or any warm bodied big, this year's team would be giving it out rather than taking it in.

+1.  Burke is all Preparation and no "H".  He is built like a Defensive End and plays like he is wearing boxing gloves.  He provides nothing offensively.  The Tennessee game was proof positive.  Nankivil is a better basketball player....period.  He needs to get bigger, but that can happen.

Save for Wilkinson, it seems to me Ryan's system has not got the best out of his plethora of very tall men over the last 3-4 years.

We'll see on that and I don't tend to disagree on his potential.  But we are talking today and the impact on the three amigos.  Navilkil barely played last year, and has put up "Burke-like" #'s on this year's rebuilding UW team.  How would he help MU THIS year?  His best game was against MU with a 6'5" guard on him.

nyg

Burke's impact on the three amigos, plus the others: In 11 games, 5 made field goals in 11 attempts.

Burke is the big loser in this match-up. He's proved nothing. And like a previous post had stated, Nankivil still has almost three seasons to show improvement.

Burke = low-major D-I talent

He did well with Brian Butch.  I never thought he'd be much of anything, but he ended up doing well.

Is there a worse starting player in D-I than Burke? I think not.

If you think not, you do not think often. There are 327 D-1 teams. That's 1,635 starting players.

Navinkil is posting a bucket and a half more per game than Burke--everything else is the same.  For a Top 100 recruit in many services now in his sophomore year, how does his performance to date show anything to indicate that he would be better than a Burke for MU this year?  The stats simply don't show it, despite the potential and Wisco hype.

Burke is indeed a role player.  He defends the post for us.  No offense.  Hazel gives us more against a zone defense as he is more active.  Otule can give us some post up looks on O to stretch the defense, but is a ways away on being effective on D (fouling machine).  We need the three headed monster to work for us.  We need this to work tonight as NCST strength is our weakness.  Navinkil would have given us nothing over this, IMO, except another body with limited potential.  Long-term, I'd much rather have Otule and Liam.

Butch was a top 10 national recruit and McDonald's All American.  If anything, he underperformed until his senior season.

I wouldn't venture far to say he underperformed his entire career. His sole highlight is winning the 2-Ball contest during LeBron's high school dunk contest.

Butch was a huge disappointment relative to the hype.    I could only imagine the sh.t storm around here if we signed a McD's AA and redshirt him and we have to wait three years to get good things from him.

The problem with Butch wasn't Ryan though...it was the hype.  We'll how it goes with Evan Anderson.

Ready2Fly

Nankivil can catch the ball.
Burke can't.

All MU needs is someone down low who can catch a few passes from James, McNeal, Matthews, etc. and dump in some layups.  Hopefully Otule can master this feat by late Feb/early March.

butchbadger

Butch was a MCD's AA and Favre and Nick Collins are pro bowl players. :o

They both mean nothing.  Nobody that saw Butch play in HS had the expectations of a normanl McD AA.

He was skinny, uncoordinated and played against nobody bigger than 6-5.   Which reminds me... ;)

Evan Anderson is ranked top 10 in his 2010 class.   He will make Butch look like Hakeem Olujuwon.  Being tall does not make you skilled.

KN is and will be a nice solid college player.  He will eventually be a 10-7 guy.

Blackhat

Unfortunately hype does mean something.    People who follow college basketball gauge their expectations on recruiting hype.   The privilege of being a McD's AA brings added expectations, that will never change.  Ask Sam Okey.
