Yeah I know...

I was talking all week about how good a coach Bo Ryan is, but he was outcoached last night.  That game started real ugly, but switching to the 1-3-1 was a masterstroke.  They had no idea how to attack it outside of launching threes.  Then Buzz changed up our offense with the ball screens up top, and we were just *blowing* by their guards.  (That is why we had a lack of assists.)

If I were playing Marquette, I would zone them.  2-3, packed in zone.  Why Bo didn't do something like that, considering how much quicker Marquette was and how poorly we shoot I don't know.

The sweetest part of last night was watching the game with four Badger friends in a bar with about 30 Badgers and 3 Warriors.  Needless to say, I was happy to buy the last pitcher!

Agreed. I also liked how Buzz put a stop to the number of threes we were taking. I know we were getting open looks, but if you're 2 of 10, try penetrating.

I didn't realize coaches were allowed to make in game adjustments!

This was our best defensive game, and best coached game so far this year.  When Buzz pilled out the zone, I was shocked, and so was UW.  We hadn't seen it yet this year.

And the 3s - yeah - we shot 10 3s in  the first 10 minutes, and made 2; but then Buzz puyt a stop to it and we shot 10 more 3s fro the next 30 minutes, and outscored UW in the paint.  It was a grat game to be at - my throat is still hurting from all the screaming - the BC was rocking at times.

And Burke had his best defenisve game of the year - BIG contribution on defense.

GO Marquette!

I also thought a surprising move that worked out well was putting Burke on Landry. If someone tells me before the game that Burke would be on Landry, I would think Landry would have 25 points because he is far more athletic than Burke, but Burke really answered the call tonight and shut him down.

Also, I have seen through most games that we do make very good halftime adjustments and usually come out better in the second half and fix things. I know its only one game, but it is exciting to feel that your coach outcoached one of the best coaches in the country in a big rivalry game. Hopefully he can do the same against Tenn.

I really liked the use of the 1-3-1.  I don't think it should be pulled too much as a couple of times I noticed it left the lane just way too wide open.  But, I do believe it is a good idea to mix things up now and again.  Just when a team thinks they know they want to do you throw that at them.  It usually takes two posessions or so to adjust... or a timeout.  You should then switch back to man-to-man.

When we are outsized in conference play, we had better think of a zone that can offset our disadvantage.  I don't know if the 1-3-1 is the answer.  But, it would be nice to have a zone we can switch to every so often.

+1.....we should use the 1-3-1  throughout the season; while a difficult zone to play it is effective and really can stifle an offense. It would benefit us most because of the fact that we would cut off penetration and only need one big down low
