Syracuse played the same zone with the same personnel almost the whole night.  During the first half our guys attached it with varying degrees of success.  Then about half way through the second half DJ got the ball near the top of the key and just stared at the zone.   It was like he couldn't believe what he was seeing.  They passed it around a little almost like they were stalling.  They burned off 15-20 seconds before even trying to make an offensive move.  They did this 3 times down the court and in front of their own bench.  What on earth were they doing?  The whole team seemed completely lost.  Now I can understand if Syracuse had been in man to man the whole game and sudden threw a zone at them but there was nothing new about this defense (that I could see).  Also when you can see your team is confused why didn't Crean call time out and diagram something.  This team has made many mistakes but I've never seen them total freeze up like that.  What happened?

I thought I was dreaming when I noticed this.  What the heck was going on?  It was truly weird.

It was even worse when we were down and the seconds were fading away.  Brutal.

If memory serves, I seem to recall TC calling a timeout on one of these or a similar possession when our guys seemed to be watching the zone with a standing dribble.  While I have no idea what was discussed during the TO, I do seem to recall turning the ball over on the inbounds play coming out of it.

Execution of seemingly simple tasks appears to be a considerable problem at this point in the season.  Who is at fault?  Players for standing around watching a zone and not executing any offense?  TC for calling a TO in an attempt to get it corrected?  Players for not executing an inbounds play?

Get a victory at UCONN so I can stop thinking about it!!!
