I thought DB played well tonite.. provided an inside toughness that was much missed the other night. Also when he catches the ball he doesn't crap his pants like the other bigs do. I think he is developing into a "serviceable" big man.

ILYBL

Burke looked better the longer he played.  His first few minutes he was getting blown off the pivot.  Defensively he's starting to get it.  His feet are still a little slow.  Offensively he's far from what we need right now.

HoopDreams

I honestly am not sure you can commend Dwight on current play..he really is a non-factor offensively, doesn't get enough rebounds, and is slow on D. He is developing but frankly our big men are simply just not adequate on this team. They could be some of the least talented in the Big East..hard to admit but it really seems that way.

Burke is just  a big body......not sure what he really did out there.  Ooze with 7 points and 9 boards was good to see - - after that, MU's bigs were abyssmal

PuertoRicanNightmare

I thought Burke played hard, as do almost all our big men. The problem I have is with the talent level. Those guys do their best, but they're just not Big East big men. How can we have such a difficult time attracting big-time talent just a few seasons after a Final Four, with arguably the most high-profile NBA star singing our praises, with a spectacular practice facility and games played in an NBA arena? Why? Why? Why? And it looks like there are a couple more "projects" coming in next year. How can Providence College have better big guys? How can Wisconsin have 4 big men superior to all of ours?

maybe we should start bringing in "state school" type talent of coeds to attract the big time recruits.  im pretty sure there was a thread about this before on recruits choosing schools based on the student bodies.  we all talked about ice cream machines and moved on.  let's do that again, i mean the move on part.  we wouldn't be complaining about the big man problem if we could shoot.  so we just need to get better in one area to forget about the other.

Agreed.  We've been posting Hayward down low, for goodness sakes!  Who would have thought we'd miss Novak's defensive rebounding?

I have nothing against the players, and I especially think Barro has improved by leaps and bounds (but even he would only be a nice big guy off the bench for a true top 15 team), but we need to get a few big time D1 ready big men in here soon.

Interesting fact about Burke... he has 25 points and 36 rebounds in his Marquette career. Stellar stats  ???

That's behind Chris Grimm pace.  And Grimm could set a better pick and played better defense.  Unless the other team's best big man gets completely shut down I'll never consider 18 scoreless minutes to be quality playing time.

ChicosBailBonds

Grimm's picks were usually of the moving variety, but the kid hustled his rear off.

miltownsports

How will MBAKE do if he plays hard? any ideas?

ChicosBailBonds

Dwight played very well tonight.

MikeyT42

dwight burke continues to improve..... tonite he provided a body to bang on down low..... he was a total man... regardless of what his stats were in the previous games and before that... he played hatd and wrked for every point/board he got tonite

WashDCWarrior

I wouldn't say he played very well last night, but he was slightly more than servicable.  I think he helped his chances for getting increased PT.

MU gimp ONE

think of how much more impressive his stats would have looked if he got both those dunks to go down.  I'm not ragging on him for them, both were highly contested and one was in the middle of 3 or 4 UConn players if i remember correctly.  I think his game last night was a product of not having to look over his shoulder everytime he made a mistake.  crean left him out there to battle and burke had a chance to get comfortable.  i applaud the kid for coming in with the intensity after getting very little PT throughout his career at Marquette.  If he keeps developing, he will be a good complimentary player for the next couple years.

I'm not ragging on him.  I just expect this to be a very average performance for him by the end of the year.  The first game he goes for 12 and 8 with a couple blocks, then I'll say he played VERY well.  I'm confident it'll be this year.
