As great of a couple years these two will be I expect us to fall back to the receiving votes - #15 range next year. Due to that I'd rather keep the ND series alive for sentimental value.

If I'm wrong and we hit end up staying in the top 10 range after Oso and TKO then I'm on board for Duke games.

You're stuck in Wojo expectations. Lets have fun my guy!

Keep ND.  Shrewsberry is a good coach and will have them at the top of the ACC in a couple of years.  Downside of ND right now, is it's not much of a road environment.  It sucked playing Purdue again last year, but Mackey was so loud and I think it helped for conference season.  So any opponent with a passionate fanbase for a non conference road game is fine by me.

I remember many on here feeling that MU could not have a program like Nova or Gonzaga and I never understood that thinking.

I remember, too, because "We can be the Next Nova" was a regular theme of mine. Some really shat on it, too, as they operated under the belief that Jay Wright walked in Nova's door and immediately got them 2 national titles. Same with Gonzaga; there is absolutely no fundamental reason Marquette couldn't replicate their success.

We have the resources, the history, the fanbase, the alumni support, the administration support, and now the right coach.

It's not unrealistic if they lose Tyler and Oso.  I still suspect 1-2 others could test the NBA waters as well.

That said, I wouldn't expect a significant drop but Galway isn't completely wrong.

As for the topic on hand, give me a Duke home-and-home over Notre Dame everyday of the week.  And burn any idiotic neutral site game BS with Notre Dame

Aside from conference tournaments (that should still be played at a conference venue) and the NCAA tournament, I would do away with neutral site games altogether given the choice. In terms of product quality, CBB will never match the NBA, but it can generate an atmosphere and pageantry that pro sports cannot match. Get rid of the made for TV "events" at the Pentagon, United Center, or even the MTEs and put the games at true home court sites. Better for the game in the long run.

I wanted Galway to admit he's Cole. Unfortunately, I think there are some MU backers that  think Shaka caught lightning in a bottle and this one this is probably a one time run. This program is built for long term success, and it is just getting started.

I remember many on here feeling that MU could not have a program like Nova or Gonzaga and I never understood that thinking. As I mentioned last week, I hope they win a natty this year, but if not, there will be more opportunities in the Shaka era.

Yep. No reason we can't br a program w title aspirations every year. No reason we can't be the next "new" blueblood

MU has already had a program like Villanova and Gonzaga, in a prior cycle. I know, I know, different era, different circumstances----no one needs to remind me of that. But as MU82 so correctly pointed out, the fundamentals are in place in Milwaukee now so that Marquette has an opportunity to join Nova and the Zags as an elite program-----practice facilities and a game day facility that take a backseat to no one; strong conference affiliation; alumni and institutional support; strong history-----and the most important thing, the perfect coach to tie everything together. The next step in the Nova/Zags model is sustainability and that chapter is just starting to be written.

As an aside, I'm a 47 year STH and I'm at every game. I cannot ever recall two "buy games" at the start of a season that had the attendance numbers and the "juice" in the Fiserv that were there for NIU and Ryder. An Irish wake is usually louder than those 2 games would be, but not this year. This fan base is definitely revved up for big things. Love the anticipation.

Everything is in place for MU to be a top ten program for the next decade. The excitement level is a very high level and everyone should enjoy the ride.

With all due respect Goose, if I searched through your history we could find your expectations going into 09-10 when we lost an all American and two all conference players. Maybe you had high expectations that year but I doubt it. Given that I expect Kam to leave along with Oso and Tyler I'd think it's a fairly comparable situation.

Saying a rebuild year would happen isn't Wojo expectations its realism. Saying we have a decent but not banner raising year is hardly Wojo expectations.

Galway

To be honest, I do not remember my being bullish or bearish that year. My optimism now is based off of who is leading the program, player retention, player development and recruiting. Of course there can be down years, but I believe the system is in place and I will wait until a roster is set before calling a down year.

Trust me, not ripping you at all. I might just be more optimistic with the system and will trust it until proven otherwise.

Galway said the "drop off" would still have them #15-ORV.  That's still pretty damn good after losing multiple starters.
